Goodgymzebo - another intents workout!

Monday 6th May

Written by Laura Denham

Today was a good team building task helping out our mates at the Blind Centre. We constructed two gazebos for their Earlsdon festival sale to house the stalls.

We also cleared out the charity shed, hauling heavy boxes of books, DVD's and bric-a-brac for the stands.

A fantastic work out, we flexed our muscles and watched the project come together from start to finish. Lets hope they raised lots of money today!

Great work guys :)

We LOVE walking

Wednesday 14th February

Written by Laura Denham

This valentines day we joined the Blind Centre again for their weekly walk around the Memorial Park.

This week we were partnered with different people to either guide or keep them company and it was good to get to know other people.

The weather wasn't quite as nice as last week and we were hit with a little downpour but thankfully it didn't last long. Everyone was walking at different paces but we all knew to head for the Memorial Cafe for a yummy hot drink. Once we were warmed up a bit the volunteers led everyone back to the Centre. A thoroughly enjoyable morning!

Now you’re walking!

Wednesday 7th February

What a beautiful fresh morning for a walk around the memorial park!

A big welcome to Beverley who came along, it was so good to meet you!

Our walk started from the Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind where we were introduced to other volunteers, guide dogs and the walk participants.

James, Bev and Laura were asked to assist a lady called Pinkie who is partially sighted and it was such a pleasure.

The group all walked at different paces but the group leaders, Chris and Pete did a grand job of checking in to make sure everyone was alright.

Great to mix with some new people and have a laugh all while keeping fit and doing good at the same time.

Loved it and looking forward to the next walk!

All we hear is radio GoodGym!

8 Goodgymers ran to the Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind (CRCB) to meet Chris and Claire and run with them as they take on the challenge of running 250km during January.

Chris, who is blind, and his wife Claire, who is visually impaired, met at CRCB and are taking on the challenge, which is part of a campaign by CRCB and other sight loss charities inviting people to 'Take on 250' to represent the number of people who begin to lose their sight in the UK every day.

After a good warm-up, which was definitely needed during this cold snap, we made our way through the city centre to the CRCB to meet Chris, Claire and guide runner Anne. Our very own Lil took on the role of running with Clare as we made our way back through the city centre, stopping to pose for a few photos at Lady Godiva. There was even time for a quick drink in the pub and a catch-up (lovely to see you again Meera, come see us again soon!) before making our way over the BBC Coventry & Warwickshire studios for Chris and Clare's interview live on air.

GoodGym meet, with the postcrete, to perform amazing feats and keep Hugh sweet!

Tuesday 25th June 2019

Written by Liz Pharoah

13 runners finally got to run in the dry and this time we ran 4.6 km to support the Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind.

It was great to meet Elise, Liam and Tina and welcome them to Coventry GoodGym.

After running the shorter distance this week of 2km to get there, we quickly got on with our tasks and started making holes and tidying up the flower beds. The boards were then fastened, drives and paths swept as the GoodGym team conscientiously helped Hugh in his quest to fix the boards at the front of the Resource Centre. There was some immense examples fo team work most notable Malcolm and Liam who made very sghort work of creating a very big hole.

When the time arrived, it was all hands on deck to put the boards in and pour the postcrete. Again, the GoodGym team proved no task was too small and whilst we waited for the postcrete to set , once the boards were level, we completed our fitness session, working on our strength and cardiovascular fitness.

Thanks Elise and Natalie for the photos.

Hugh was pleased with our work and we then set off back to Drapers, with speedier folk looping back so we didn't spread out too far.

Again you proved what a lovely lot you are.

Thanks all and see you next week, Liz x

Where's your shed at? Weed love to see you again next week

Tuesday 19th March 2019

Written by Liz Pharoah

Wow, what a first week. You lots are amazing. Forty one runners ran 5 km in total to Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind on the19th March where they weeded, cleaned paths, moved sheds and rafts to clear a fantastic area which will now be used to build a shelter for visiting Guide Dogs.

Having been greeted by Hugh and Jo at the Centre and having learned about how the task would benefit, our busy 41 set off on competing the task. Due to the nature of the task, as well as the participating in the task runners also participated in a mini fitness session. The transformation of the garden was impressive with a shed, desks and at least 15 bags of weeds relocated to a skip. Having been thanked by Jo, we headed off to complete our fitness session.

The fitness session started with finding a buddy and then completing laps of the park mixed with some strengthening exercises. All runners gave it their all on the reps and completed the session with smiles beaming.

Thank you so much for attending and giving it your all, not only on the task but on the fitness session afterwards. It was great to chat to lots of you, hope I can catch up with the rest of you at sessions in the future.

Next week's run can be signed up for here
