Double Whammy

Tuesday 17th October 2023

Written by Laura Denham

A group of 11 dedicated Goodgymers embarked on a double dose of good deeds tonight where we managed to help both Coventry Boys and Girls club and Clothing Coventry - AMAZING!

We were originally booked in for just the painting but then Clothing Coventry called for our support and you guys delivered once again!

We split into teams with Georgia, Jackie, Roopa, Nigel and Laura on Team CBGC and Lil, James, Chloe, Maddie, Greame and Dale on Team CC. Team CBGC didn’t have far to go with this being our usual meeting place, while Lil lead the warm up and run for Team CC to head over to Clothing Coventry.

Listening to some 80s tunes, Team CBGC painted a wall in the cafe a beautiful shade of white and finished off the edges and patchy bits in the toilets following our previous visit. Team CBGC had lots of fun sorting the piles of kids clothes into appropriate size categories.

Thank you so much for all your effort, you are brilliant!

Join us next week for yet more sorting at Clothing Coventry, we are giving them a bit of extra support at the moment to prepare them for the warehouse move which is coming soon.

Art attack

Tuesday 26th September 2023

Great turn out again with 11 Goodgymers showing up ready for some painting.

Why were we here?

We were last at Coventry Boys and Girls club in January painting their lifts and we obviously did a sterling job as they've had us back for more! This time we were painting the loo's as they were looking a bit shabby in places.

The task....

With a fantastic team of 11 we needed to split into 2 groups as there wasn't the space for us all to fit in to paint the toilets. Half the group stayed to paint while the other half ran, with Laura P leading the way.

Laura had already planned a route around the City Centre soaking up some of Coventry's public art along the way. While they were out enjoying the sights, Jackie, James and Nigel donned their painting gear and cracked on with the job. They made great progress and were nearly finished on the ladies by the time the runners returned with just some cutting in and a little bit of the white to finish off.

Some of us swapped our paintbrushes for our running shoes and set off on what was run number 2 for Laura P and Graeme. The first running group were now getting into their aprons to finish the painting off in the ladies loo's and start on the gents. Everyone worked so well as a team and when the runners were back to the club they were near finishing both toilets. Nigel, Chloe and Dale were on it until the very end, determined to complete the job.

Well done everyone, you did it! The white is done and the first coat of the grey is ready for our next visit. After all our hard work we enjoyed some delicious cake courtesy of Nigel, thanks Nig!

Shout outs...

All of you for doing such a fab job! Nice to see you again Chris, great to have you back Nigel - we've missed you :) And yay to Joe for finally getting his GoodGym t-shirt and looking very proud wearing it too

  • with people leaving at different times and the task running over i didn't get a group shot ☹ but promise to get s good one next week!

If anyone has any time to spare at the weekend we will be at Team springboard on Saturday morning. Sign up if you would like to come along, the more the merrier!

Let the good times roller!

Tuesday 31st January 2023

Great turn out last night to help Coventry Boys and Girls Club with sprucing up the place with a lick of paint! There's a few paint jobs they need doing and we started with the entrances to the lifts which are on 3 floors. Allan had also requested a 40 minute run so we discussed how best to co-ordinate the painting and run so that we could fit it all in.

We all helped out with the prep work, putting sheets down, masking the edges, and filling the trays with paint. We started with 2 people tackling each floor, some using the rollers and some painting the edges with the paintbrushes. Jackie and Deb took the top floor, Nigel and Laura on the second and Maddie and Lilian on the ground. When Allan arrived and it was decided to split the group in two, with four people running and four left behind to continue painting and then when they returned, we would swap.

The painting team worked super quick and were finished by the time the first group returned from their run so that just left the job that no one ever wants to do, the washing up! Luckily Jackie and Deb took that on - thanks guys! While the rest of us joined the first group for another run. It was decided, as we were painting, to go on an artwork trail around the City Centre. Lots of great artwork to be seen including a mural tribute to Coventry's James Starley!

Great team work tonight and thanks to all for bringing ideas on how best to co-ordinate it all. Also a big welcome to Nigel, it was great to have you on board! To be continued next week when we return for more painting.
