Bucketing it down, and up and down...

Monday 8th April

Written by Josh Stevens

With Tabitha, Josh & Catherine looping up outside Beer & Burger for a needed warm-up for those fresh off a half marathon. A slow run was begun for the first task at Clitterhouse farm for 2024. Meeting Lee and Cherian upon arrival. With fresh paintings up upon entrance and tuliups blooming to welcome us, we gloved up with buckets and forks in hand. With a heap of compost to overturn and move to a new location. We were moving mountains not molehills. Working in the farm, mother nature decided we needed feeding and bestowed buckets of rain down on us ensuring we were well watered. With some smooth transitions of team work, effort was shared and compost was delivered. With a meandering movement back to Beer & Burger for a well deserved drink to celebrate the changing of season and type of tasks!

In the chip of time

Monday 18th September 2023

Written by Tabitha Skinner

Goodgym Brent met in Willesden with a big hello and welcome to first timer Christine

After a catch up and warm up, we jogged 2 km to Clitterhouse farm . Anika greeted us on arrival and rushed to show us the tasks for the evening , as the light was slowly disappearing . We shared out the tasks between us. Christine expertly painted a small table black . Lizzie filled a wheelbarrow and buckets with woodchip. Pete and Tabitha then spread the sweet smelling wood chip on the flower beds , to cover any weeds and prevent them growing .

In no time at all the light was gone , the jobs were done , and we raced back to Willesden

Great job Team Brent !

No Place Weed Rather Be

Monday 28th August 2023

Written by Tabitha Skinner

On a sunny Bank holiday evening Goodgym Brent met in Willesden Green. We welcomed back Catherine for her second Goodgym session, and a big welcome to Brian, who joined for the first time! Brian has been lurking in the Brent Whatsapp group for 2+ years, and has finally made it to his first run, hopefully of many!

We warmed up and introduced ourselves and jogged 2.2km to Clitterhouse farm. Anika and Rob met us on arrival and were pleased to see such a big group of us. Our task for the day was clearing out a HUGE pile of garden waste, and a compost heap to make way for a wildflower garden and a pond.

We worked well as a team, filling wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow with sticks and compost. Josh was able to lift kilos at a time, Lizzy and Catherine found their new calling as power tool masters, removing the screws from the compost bin so we could access and remove the compost very easily.Brian was a wheelbarrow pro. Tabitha took the lovely pics in the report.

In no time at all, the pile had been removed, it was very rewarding to see the changes a big group can make in a small space of time, Rob and Anika were very grateful for the help. We packed up, stopped for a team photo, waved goodbye and jogged back to Willesden for a warm down and a cool drink.

Thanks everyone!!

Woodchips and goodchips

Monday 3rd July 2023

Written by Pete

Josh and Pete met at beer and burger, did a warm-up then jogged and chatted 2.4 k to Clitterhouse farmhouse where they met the lovely German lady who manages the garden (so sorry I forgot the name, will add next time) and were instructed to do some weeding, cut back some plants across the path in the small garden and spread some woodchips on the path, so we got to work on a nice warm evening, then Lee arrived and was instructed to cut down some long grass by the herb garden. We all ended up spreading some woodchip, it was lovely to be in the tremendous Clitterhouse garden on a warm summer evening😁. We then jogged back 2.4k,did a cool down then hit b and b for a quick chat and a cold one. Good job guys👍.

Written by Tabitha Skinner

Introduction: On a hot and balmy Monday night, a dedicated group of volunteers gathered in Willesden to embark on a meaningful and fulfilling task organized by GoodGym. Tabitha, Josh, Karen, and Sabina came together, prepared and motivated, to make a positive impact in their community. Utilizing the assistance of AI, the team commenced their evening with a ten-minute warm-up session to get their bodies ready for the work ahead.

Once adequately warmed up, the team embarked on a 2.5-kilometer jog from Willesden to Clitterhouse FarmTheir destination was Clitterhouse Farm, a community garden that would benefit from their efforts and contribute to the preparation for the upcoming production of Twelfth Night on Friday.

Upon arrival at Clitterhouse Farm, Tabitha, Josh, Karen, and Sabina were greeted by Lee and Becka, the remaining GG Brent volunteers. Anika, their task leader, efficiently organized the various assignments, ensuring that there was plenty of work for everyone. The team split up and eagerly began tackling the different tasks assigned to them.

Some team members took hold of shovels and a barrow, spreading woodchip on the ground. Meanwhile, Pete and Sabina diligently focused on weeding the plant pots, ensuring that the plants had ample space to grow and thrive. Their attention to detail and commitment to the task contributed to the overall health and vibrancy of the garden. Karen, displaying her nurturing side, took charge of watering the plants in the greenhouse.

As the tasks neared completion, the team came together to line one of the garden paths with bricks, adding structure and defining the walkways. With the tasks successfully completed, the team took a moment to appreciate and celebrate their collective efforts. They gathered for a group photo, capturing the smiles and sense of accomplishment that radiated from each team member. Their dedication and hard work had made a tangible difference in the community, leaving behind a lasting impact.

As the sun began to set, the team bid farewell to Clitterhouse Farm and jogged back to Willesden. Sabina led the group with a satisfying stretching and cool down session, before finishing up with a well deserved drink

World weed web

Monday 12th September 2022

Written by Liz

On a late summer's evening Lee, Liz, Pete and Tabitha met for a warm-up outside the cafe. The team voted to enjoy the summer's evening and take the scenic route around the WORLD (AKA through the park).

When the team arrived at Clitterhouse Farm, they found Becka and Guliano already working hard with Anika. There were a lot of WEEDS which needed uprooting! Becka found a spider sitting on his WEB.

Soon, the light faded and the team ran back to base for a well earned beverage and a quick glance at the world weed web!
