Pre-fair prep with the Scout crew today was a whole vibe!

Saturday 13th June

Written by Anna (she/her)

We were on full-on grind mode building tables, benches, and setting up the ultimate tombola and raffle stations. 🎟️ Teamwork definitely made the dream work because we locked in and smashed out a massive gazebo in literally 30 minutes flat. ⏱️💪 While the rest of the squad crushed the football zone and chill areas, Emma and I finished up by labelling the raffle prizes. Obviously, we only used numbers ending in 6 or 7... because we stay trendy like that. 😎 The grounds are officially set, the summer fair aesthetics are locked in, and we are so ready for tomorrow! ☀️🍦

Cleaning up at the hut

Sunday 17th May

Written by Rachel White

A lovely Sunday morning spent at the scout hut. Three GoodGymers turned up to help out and get the hut looking well-loved. Rachel and Raquel weeded the front of the building and spent time lifting the drains to empty out the compost that had formed there. The kids loved exploring the worms and bugs that had taken up residence. Dave got the power tools out and strimmed the outside to clear the vegetation that was hanging on the pavement.

Great work! We definitely earned the sausage and bacon rolls that they very kindly provided for lunch.

Go go gazebo

Saturday 12th July 2025

What an absolute scorcher! Nothing like spending a hot sunny day under the plastic wrapping of gazebos. The scout fair is tomorrow so we put up the gazebos, moved equipment around and labelled up the raffle prizes. Hot, sweaty work but very satisfying.

No Bunking Off Here...

Sunday 23rd March 2025

Written by Dave White

Today's mission was at the 1KH Scout hut where they needed many hands to help construct a bunkhouse for the cubs and scouts. This involved some very heavy work to lift the solid concrete walls and put in place. Perfect GoodGym fodder! Although the building wasn't finished when we left we had certainly helped get it mostly there. Job well done.

Polishing off the List 🧼

Tuesday 21st January 2025

Written by Claire Dunne

Tonight 1st Kingston Hill Scouts came to the rescue after our original task was cancelled and were prepared and ready with a list of jobs fit for a cleaning badge.

The runners started at the Quaker Centre where we were joined by Ana on her first group run. After a warm up we set off on a 2km run which helped keep us warm on a chilly evening.

Ken, Claire, Emma, Julie and Ana started off Beavering away polishing the floor. The polish was going down at super quick speed but needed to make sure it was uniform. Having moved scarves etc to the door mat we embarked the hallway too making sure we polished our way out to the back door.

Marcos meanwhile was doing some polishing of a different kind giving the windows a quick clean.

Jana gave the cloak room and shoe cubby holes a good clean ready for morning nursery whilst in the kitchen Emily, Rachel and Ellie cleaned the kitchen cupboards and and Dave had a good Explore(r) behind the fridge to clear out the debris.

Jo was Scouting around for another task and asked Claire to scrape the stickers off a cupboard.

After bit of Networking with Jo we promised will be back to visit in March to help with putting up a flat pack building.

Then it was time for the running pack to head on their 3km run back to base.

We Flame to Please!

Sunday 17th March 2024

Written by Dave White

Lots of fiery fun at the scout hut this morning! Our main mission was to clear an area that had been the collection point for a load of garden waste, tree branches, old wood, logs, etc. We set to it with a few scouts and scout-parent volunteers to help us along the way. We lifted & shifted all the material to the bonfire patch at the end of the plot and then the scout leaders did what they do best... had a big old fire. Very satisfying to see so much change over the course of a couple of hours and the scouts provided some most welcome sausage and bacon sarnies for lunch when the work was done. Yum.
