The Trench of life

Sun 17 Jan
Report written by Helen Conner

A team of Goodgym volunteers arrived at Alice park on a sunny wintery day ready to get stuck in. Following a short briefing, we were allocated our socially distant spots, given the tools and the rest was up to us.

Alison and Cosmo took the heavy tools and impressively chipped away at the hard, concrete ground. They made progress quickly and even Alison's watch agreed is was rigorous work.

The two Emily's (Emily and Emily) both new to Goodgym started on the top layer of soil shovelling away into wheel barrows for use elsewhere in the garden.

Doris dug the largest hole and slowly began to disappear into the trench

Helen had the clay to contend with, forking it over and collecting in buckets ready for the sack truck.

Whilst Sophie worked busily in the main garden

It took just 2 hours for us to complete the trench. Now ready for the community garden team to plant their yew trees.

The task owners were very impressed with our efforts and couldn't believe how much we achieved. Well done team, what a great way to start a Sunday!

Delivering a community meal

Sun 8 Nov 12:35 pm
35 frome road, Odd Down, Bath, BA2 2QF
Helping isolated members of the community

Andy at St James and St Phillips' church has asked 4 of us to help him out. Him and his team of volunteers regularly cook meals for anyone in the community to enjoy for free, but given the current situation they are unable to host their meal at the church.

Instead, a team of volunteers are going to cook the meals and deliver them to people that are isolated and in need.

We will be delivering some of the meals. We will meet outside the church at 1235 and walk/jog with the food containers to people’s houses where we will leave the at the doorstep. Our delivery points are based near the church, and we will have to deliver a few each.

We will ensure to implement social distancing measures inline with GoodGym and government guidelines to stay safe. Please make sure refer to the GoodGym advice here.

Any questions please send me an email sam.o@goodgym.org, comment below or phone Andy on 07849169142

FAQs:

"What if someone doesn''t answer the doorbell" Some of our guests are hard of hearing or limited mobility so can take longer to get to the door. Ring the bell/knock a number of times. If no response call telephone number on label. If no response or no number given call Andy on 07849 169 142.

"What do I do if people want to pay?: We are not currently operating out of our church catering rated kitchen so there is no charge for this meal. It is a gift from the church.
