Ms S recognised me when I called her because I did shopping for her months ago. I managed to get everything for her apart from a bag of crisps.

Food2You Tesco shop, Tuesday edition

Tue 16 Mar 09:00 am
Tesco Extra, Surrey Quays Shopping Centre, London, SE16 7LL
Help this fantastic organisation

Are you available to help our friends at Food2You on a Tuesday morning in Surrey Quays? This is a fun task that will make a big difference!

What's involved?

  • Meet Food2You team at Tesco in Surrey Quays between 9-11am
  • Pick up a shopping list and head into the store to find the items
  • Bring these back to the team, where together, you will double check the items before they are boxed to go through the till

ON ARRIVAL

  • If you arrive and there is a queue, go to the front and tell them you are volunteering with Food2You/Age UK and they will let you in
  • Walk through the store to the far end. In between the alcohol and the bakery section there is a big double white door. Go through the door, turn left, and Terry and the team should all be in there
  • If you can't find the way, look out for shoppers in Tesco with red clipboards, that say 'I'm shopping for local older people' on the back, and they will be able to point you in the right direction!

Food2You is a shopping delivery service provided for older people through Age UK. We are excited to be able to get involved, with this task now a weekly activity on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

You will, of course, need to adhere to social distancing rules, wear a mask and gloves and take direction from the Food2You team.

Goodgym people bend over backwards to relax!

Tue 9 Mar
Report written by Paul Salman

A few goodgym people joined online yoga. Thanks for coming! Yoga talk

Backbends are invigorating and strengthening. They stretch the quads and hip flexors and help open up the shoulders and chest, an area where lots of us hold tension. ... By increasing mobility and awareness of the spine, backbends improve posture and can help to alleviate some kinds of back and neck pain. By releasing tension we get a relief from anxiety and stress that may build up over the day.

Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback

Adventure Film Watch Party: "How Not to Run 55 miles"

Thu 4 Mar

During the current lockdown, Team #GoodgymRedThunder will be hosting a weekly Adventure Film Watch Party- an opportunity to watch these great free-to-air documentaries together! During these uncertain times, sometimes we need a bit of inspiration to get us out the door and finding our own adventures!

"How Not to Run 55 miles"

BBC Radio 1Xtra presenter Reece Parkinson is determined to run a one of the UK's toughest races, with only 37 days to train.

After multiple races get cancelled due to Covid-19, he sets his sights on a 55-mile ultra-marathon still due to go ahead. The Montane Cheviot Goat is a brutal non-stop race over the freezing, remote and mountainous landscapes of Northumberland, predominantly in the dark.

But Reece is dealt with blow after blow of setbacks, with doctors advising him against it and running coaches saying his lack of preparation is dangerous. His problems then take a more severe turn when he is hit with a very serious and life-changing medical diagnosis. Running seems to be the easiest part of his goal, but will he succeed?

(Film duration: 35 min)

Another litter pick at Kennington

Sat 27 Feb
Report written by Emma

This must be week 7 or 8 now and the park is definitely looking cleaner! We’re hoping to expand and move into other green spaces nearby in the next few weeks!

Well done to Harriet, Gayle and Cora for clearing away multiple bags of rubbish in an area which is popular for fly tipping!

We were delighted to be joined by local residents and had a few more people interested in joining us next week!
