Tonight we had a lovely big group who all headed to Meanwood Valley Farm to help the team with a variety of jobs. The main job was to prepare a large area ready for tomato plants. Apparently they need soft ground, up to 50cm deep in order to thrive which was good to know, as I prepare to plant my own in the coming days. We used a large variety of tools including a wheel hoe which was very satisfying to use! This area is now ready for the plants to go in.
Our resident compost turners did their work as usual, Rachel & Helen always volunteer for this smelly job & Shannen joined them tonight, thanks ladies :)
As we always do, we got sent away with a variety of organic veggies including beetroot, radishes & rhubarb. Delicious!
Welcome to newcomers Billy & Katie, we hope to see you again soon.
Great work team!

We are a small charity with limited resources, so jobs like this often fall by the wayside. It helps us to continue to focus on our core work, but also with compost, it means we can have less inputs and save money

Fixing cupboards, digging paths, pulling weeds & woodchipping...there were lots of varied tasks for the gang tonight at Bedford Fields. The path group worked hard & cleared the whole path, ready for woodchipping. The weeding group cleared many different beds for planting this week. I was absolutely covered in mud by the time I finished, I think that was my muddiest task yet! It was great to see Amy again & to meet Aorvi tonight. We hope to see you again soon.
Good work team!

Tonight we said goodbye to our friend Christian who's moving back to Nigeria. Where will we be without our very own GoodGym Leeds superman, the fittest of us all, the hardest working, photo dodging, fruit eating machine?! Christian, I speak for all of us when I say we're going to miss you so much! We look forward to hearing about your new journey wearing your Yorkshire flat cap!!!
We ran to Left Bank tonight to wash many wedding chairs. The production line worked with everyone washing, Adam steaming, Katie & I drying & Helen organising it all! Then we got to finish off with a pint & present giving ceremony for Christian. He got his flat cap, Yorkshire mix sweets & tea bags as well as a card with pictures of all his best bits!
It was great to welcome so many newcomers too. Joao, Sourav, Jacob, Amara & Sarah thanks for coming & we hope to see you again soon.

It will help this lovely organisation get ready for wedding season.

Leeds Report written by Helen Noyes
Ten of us headed to Meanwood Farm, braving the biblical storm and arriving drenched to the skin. Looking at the day old lambs revived us somewhat and Jen quickly put us to work on various tasks. We spent an hour potting up chilli seedlings, barrowing compost to the polytunnels, and digging it into neat rows ready for planting. The weather turned more spring-like and the lighter evening allowed us to see how the compost bins we have been turning all winter have produced excellent wormy compost. Jen rewarded us with lettuce and we ran back to HEART with our arms full of our bounty. True spirit of landworkers!

What a great night!
On a beautiful sunny, spring day, with everyone in great spirits, we all ran to Beckhill Community Garden (without getting lost) & met Lynn for the first time this year.
It was woodchip Wednesday, so half the group got to work moving piles of woodchip...Christian found a method that worked by tossing it over his shoulder! The other half weeded around the beds.
The garden is about to show at a flower show in Harrogate....this little garden has completely transformed under Lynn's leadership...Well done!!
