๐ŸŒฟ CHIP, CHIP, HOORAY! ๐ŸŒฟ

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Another Tuesday, another band of Lambeth legends proving that the only thing we love more than a good run is getting so mulch done for the community. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผโœจ

Our superstar squad rolled out from Papa's in fine form โ€” AA, Michael, Dan & Jo lacing up and hitting the tarmac on foot, while Fi, Katie, Nehal and Adam rolled deep on wheels and wellies (well, approximately). The vibes? Immaculate. The chat? Flowing faster than we were. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ˜‚

Our mission this evening took us to the wonderful Agnes Riley Gardens, where the brilliant Jo from Friends of Agnes Riley and Tom from Lambeth Parks had a job for us: spread woodchip along the hedges to give the freshly planted whips the best possible start to the new season. ๐ŸŒฑ Think of it as tucking the baby trees in for spring. Cosy! ๐Ÿค—

And did we chip in? Oh, we chipped in HARD. The team shovelled, narrowed and spread that woodchip with the kind of efficiency that would make a professional landscaper weep with pride โ€” job done in no time, leaving us the very important task of... standing around a pond staring at newts. ๐ŸฆŽโค๏ธ And honestly? Absolutely worth it. The pond was JUMPING (well, crawling, they're newts) with wildlife and we are not ashamed to say we were absolutely giddy about it.

๐ŸŒŸ SPECIAL SHOUTOUT ๐ŸŒŸ

A massive welcome to Nehal, who joined us for her very first Group Run tonight! Having already dipped her toes in with Community Missions alongside Katie, Nehal is clearly committed to the GoodGym life โ€” and we are SO here for it. Welcome to the madness, we love having newt members of the team. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿคฉ

Until next time, Lambeth โ€” keep running, keep giving, and for the love of all things good, keep spreading the chip. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’š

Weโ€™re hedge over heels for the Healing Garden

Lambeth Report written by Katie Allan

On a beautifully sunny Saturday, Goodgym-ers from Lambeth and Wandsworth joined forces to help the team at the Community Healing Gardens in Vauxhall. It was especially good to welcome Amy to her first ever Goodgym session!

The Community Healing Gardens is a gorgeous green haven in the middle of an otherwise built-up area, which provides residents with essential outdoor space, and a habitat for birds and other wildlife. The volunteer team have recently planted mixed native hedge whips around the perimeter of the garden and our mission today was to give these freshly planted areas a bit of TLC to encourage growth.

We were given a warm welcome from Head Gardener Hugh, and then joined local residents Hannah, Nehal and Stella, as well as Gareth from Friends of the Earth Lambeth, to tackle the tasksโ€ฆ

๐ŸŒฟ Ben and Michael filled a huge planter with soil

๐ŸŒฑ Tracey and Katie weeded the beds where the new hedges had recently been planted

๐Ÿƒ Amy filled in potholes in the lawn and collected litter

Once those jobs were completed, we all took it in turns to fill wheelbarrows with mulch to put down in the freshly weeded beds to discourage weeds.

As if by magic, two flasks of tea and a Victoria sponge cake appeared just at the perfect moment for a well-earned break!

We all agreed that many hands make light work, and that we like the Healing Gardens very mulch - hopefully weโ€™ll be back soon!

Rake It Till You Make It ๐Ÿ

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

GoodGym Lambeth | Run Report ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ’š Leaf It To Us!

Well, well, well โ€” our magnificent mob of do-gooding runners were out in full force this week, descending on the streets of Lambeth like a very fit, very enthusiastic swarm of locusts. (Sorry Dan, we know, we know โ€” new start point, new us. Change is growth! ๐ŸŒฑ)

The vibes? Immaculate. The chat? Absolutely flowing. The pace? Fast enough to feel smug, slow enough to finish a sentence. ๐Ÿ’ฌโœจ

The Task ๐Ÿ‚ This week we headed over to The Lunch Club Streatham at their Woodlawns site, where nature had โ€” shall we say โ€” gone a bit feral. Leaves, twigs, fallen branches: the full autumnal chaos package. Our mission was to wrestle the outdoor space into shape ahead of an exciting planting project and lunch service when the warmer weather finally stops being so shy. โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿคž

And wrestle we did. No leaf was left unturned (literally), no branch left unstowed. By the end, we had: ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ 10+ bulging bin bags filled and destined for composting ๐Ÿšฎ Litter picked to within an inch of its life ๐Ÿชต Branches stashed ready for a future task โ€” because the fun never stops! The outdoor space is looking twig-mendously better. Weโ€™re not saying weโ€™re heroes, butโ€ฆ the evidence speaks for itself. ๐Ÿฆธ

The Shoutouts ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐ŸŽ‚ Ben โ€” massive birthday shoutout incoming! The big day is TOMORROW, which means tonightโ€™s run was basically his pre-birthday workout. Iconic behaviour. Many happy returns, Ben!

๐Ÿšด Adam โ€” joined us for his very first GoodGym run! Usually found terrorising the streets on two wheels, tonight he used his actual legs like the rest of us. Welcome to the fold, Adam โ€” weโ€™ve got a feeling the bike might get a bit jealous. ๐Ÿ˜„

๐Ÿ’ฏ Michael โ€” brace yourselvesโ€ฆ Michael has just hit 100 months of GoodGym. ONE HUNDRED. Thatโ€™s over 8 years of showing up, doing good, and being generally wonderful. We are not worthy. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿคฉ

See you all next week โ€” same do-gooders, different start point (sorry again Dan ๐Ÿ‘€).โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹

Another mission in the (bin) bag!

Lambeth Report written by Katie Allan

This was a fantastic mission, joining forces with a number of Brixton organisations for a community litter pick. Multiple different groups met at different areas of Brixton for a simultaneous clean-up. This was part of a youth-led initiative, set up by young people at the Marcus Liptrot Community Centre, and attended by local residents, borough councillors, police officers - and Goodgymers!

Six Goodgymers, representing Lambeth, Ealing, Croydon and Brent, met in Windrush Square, collected our litter pickers and high-vis, and headed off to St Matthewโ€™s church gardens. After an hour of solid litter-picking we had filled several bags of rubbish. Shout out to Steph who ran 27km to be there, and to Harvey who hit his incredible 1000th mission earlier that same morning! What an achievement!

After our hour was up we headed back to base, and it was amazing to see just how much could be achieved in a short space of time. Well done everyone!

Litterโ€‘ally Making a Difference

Lambeth Report written by StephDucat

Katie and Steph Ducat met at the entrance of the park and went to the container where Karolis from Friends of Loughborough Park was busy with a patch. He dropped everything to get the gear out : plastic bags, litter pickers and magical loops. Either you know or you dont know the secret way of looping the bags as some of them are tricky. More volunteers appeared including Brenda from Goodgym. We all set off into the park to hunt down the litter left in this beautiful park. Usual suspects were paper, crisp wrappers, bottles, food waste and Steph Ducat found something that will keep someone safe in a way(see pic with blue item from Durex)!!A decision was taken here at one stage. After an hour the litter hunters returned to base and collected roughly 6 bags. Well done team!!No cake or coffee and the 3 Goodgymers walked to their next community mission in Brixton.
