We met at the The Gym on Queen street, where Helen explained that the task had changed a bit, from the one advertised, and we would be heading off into the wilds of Colchester to track down some litter instead. Sorry guys!
However, we did have shiny new, never-used-before litter pickers and hoops from CBC, so we lashed some of their special litter warrior bags to our hoops and set off after a quick warm up.
The team did a brilliant job on a circuit of Abbeyfields, expertly identifying litter from leaves, and gradually filling up two bags with all sorts of finds, including: approx. 12 masks, a pair of knickers, two socks (different ones) a hat, a glove, some laces, and an awful lot of drinks bottles.
After that, we left the bag by a litter bin, reported it to the council, as per procedures, and headed home as it was pretty chilly out there! Well done everyone, we successfully tidied up the town, and removed hazards from the undergrowth to help the wildlife.
Locations to be confirmed but the meeting place will be outside The Gym. Most residential homes have a courtyard and garden that needs a bit of TLC.
Just a reminder to always check where we are meeting. For this task for example we are meeting at the The Gym and going to Colchester Borough Homes. Goodgym wants to encourage exercise and traveling in an eco friendly way but it also wants to remain helpful to the community and to our members
With Christmas coming and nobody wanting to risk a isolated Christmas we decided to have a coffee after Parkrun and then wrap up warm at home. It was lovely to here everyones Christmas plans and we wish everyone a safe, happy, calm and reflective Christmas.
Love from Goodgym Colchester and Goodgym Central!
PS Sorry Dan - think my brain froze.
This morning was a lovely way to support Colchester Junior Parkrun celebrate Christmas and bring a smile to the faces of all involved.
Sometimes our tasks can seem unsung as we stealthy negotiate the streets of Colchester on a Wednesday evening in the dark and do not see the people who benefit. With the Christmas carols a fortnight ago bringing smiles to residents and today seeing the kids, parents and dedicated volunteers doing so well, we felt a real warmth on a cold day,
We will have a festive training session on Wednesday before well-deserved indulgence over Christmas.
Merry Christmas you lovely Goodgymers
So down to business...Eight goodgym elves got down to business at level best, armed with wrapping paper and sticky tape and some top tunes, DJ'd by Tavvy T. In a very short time, a big pile of gift wrapped goodies appeared, saving Alison hours of time, for which she was very grateful. The goodgym crew then headed off for the 12 exercises of Christmas, to burn off all those mince pies!
We love Junior Parkrun and all the smiles of the young children as they cross that finish line! We are doing a takeover which means we will try to cover as many volunteering roles as possible. Marshalls/timekeepers/barcode scanners tail walker, we want you all! And is it will be a week before Christmas of course your best Christmas jumpers please too!
Help wrap christmas gifts for the trainees!
Bring facemasks and festive joy :-)
The more the merrier! Ho Ho Ho!
Fitness session to follow, after we #wrap up.
Goodgym Hero of the Week, Mikaela, was joined by twelve deputy heroes on the High Street tonight to do some gardening for Colchester in Bloom. After a briefing from Tav, we ran and walked to the meeting point to get our instructions. Armed with garden bags and tools we made short work of emptying ten two-tier planters of old plants, ready for the new ones tomorrow. The task was a repeat of the one in May, although this time it didn't end in free rhubarb for the runners! We piled our heavy bags of plants into Pam's car, and headed off for some hill sprints, supported by Stu, Hels, and Yee, shouting encouragement and shining some extra lights! 👍 😁 👏 A fantastic run, walk, cycle and task this evening, well done everyone!
Help Colchester in Bloom keep the town looking beautiful. New plants are destined for the planters, and the old ones need to come out! Bring gardening gloves and any tools if you have them. We will be meeting at the Gym and heading to get our instructions from Pam at the Town Hall...
I can also feel some hill work coming on...
