Lending a hand on the Strand
Six of us met outside Zimbabwe House on The Strand to distribute various donated items from Get Rid of and Donate to rough sleepers.
We gathered outside the van, and started taking things out. First were all the coats and shoes, which proved popular and attracted a crowd. We then had to assemble some sort of queue for bag distribution, including rucksacks and suitcases containing clothes and toiletries. This was far more difficult than it sounds!
Once we'd cracked the bag distribution queue and had everyone moving through, we brought out some sleeping bags, pillows and tents to give away, and each of us began helping people get items on request, depending on what was left over.
With all the suitcases gone from the van and the crowds dispersing, we packed up the remaining coats, shoes, and other miscellaneous items into the van. Just before dispersing, we noticed some clothes had been taken out of the donated suitcases and left on the side of the pavement. So after a quick rescue mission to gather up any unwanted items and scooping them into the van, we all said our goodbyes and headed off!

Lambeth
Distributing bags of essentials to rough sleepers

We've spent the last couple of weeks sorting and packing bags of clothing, blankets and toiletries, most of which is stuff donated to Get Rid Of & Donate who we've done a bunch of cool things with in Lambeth.
Now is the time to distribute the bags!
The meeting spot is outside Zimbabwe House on The Strand at 7pm.
Please bring: 🤿 Mask 💦 Hand sanitiser 🧤 Gloves
And Andrea who will meet you has advised on minimising personal belongings.
Make sure you're paired up with someone and stick to the main streets. Andrea will give you a briefing when you arrive and of course don't do anything you don't feel comfortable doing.
Any questions, drop me (Mark) an email :)

Moving legs for some Gregg's
Becky and I picked up a load of delicious Gregg's pasties and pastries leftover from today. We both made our way up to the community centre and left the Gregg's there for collection.

Camden
Snowshopper Showstopper
Snowing in London. It doesn't happen very often but when it does, it is a beautiful sight. Even when it snows, us volunteers still get out there to help the isolated. Mrs. D needed some essential items that were not included in her regular shop. Luckily I was able to get there with no issues. She was very appreciative indeed!

From Carmen:
The volunteer bank is very much word of mouth at the month I.e. we are asking our friends and neighbours to help out so now for long term sustainability we are looking to create a bank of people we can call up with a few days notice.
We are running two Covid vaccination clinics in Haringey-
Lordship Lane Primary Care Centre- 239 Lordship Lane, N17 6AA
Bounds Green Group Practice, Gordon Road, N11 2PF
The clinics are running from 8am-8pm Monday-Sunday and we are looking for volunteers to do tasks including marshalling in the reception (directing people to the waiting are and the post-vaccination observation room), checking in patients at reception and assisting in the post-vaccination observation room. We would be delighted with any help people could offer, volunteers have generally been doing 4-6 hour shifts but we will be happy with any amount of time people can spare.
In terms of precautions, everyone is wearing masks at all times, patients are not allowed inside without a mask on and temperature checks are being done before people are allowed to enter the clinic. Chairs and anything that people touch are being wiped down constantly and there is good ventilation in the clinics- Bounds Green waiting area is outside in a marquee.

Transport Greggs leftovers to a homeless charity

Bright Morning Star Prisons and Homeless Outreach help to rebuild, support and elevate the lives of the most vulnerable people on the street and at their Walk-In Centres. They provide basic and immediate physical and emotional help to the public, and provide a free counselling service.
We've been asked to help with transporting leftovers from Greggs, 4 Electric Avenue, Brixton to Lola who distributes the food at Chandler Community Centre, Lambeth Walk, SE11 6DU. Here's a map - it's a 4km run/ride.
If you go in and say you're collecting food for Bright Morning Star Prison and Homeless Outreach, they should give you the leftovers! There may be quite a lot so just take what you can :)
🎒Please bring a backpack/panniers to transport the food (plastic bags might be useful too as the bags the pastries etc are in can be greasy!).
🤿Please bring a mask to wear in the shop
We need 3 people to sign up to transport the food - you can either run or ride, together or separately. If there are any problems, please call Lola on 07492079197 or 07946288144.
