Somewhere over the pile of woodchip

Southwark Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)

Charlotte, John, Lindsay and Sam met up at the Wildlife Triangle on Elmington Estate to move a massive pile of woodchip. The issue was Alice, the task owner, wasn't present.

After using various means of getting in contact with Alice and fifteen minutes later, Catalina got in touch. We met her at the allotments to collect the tools needed to move the woodchip.

After two rounds moving woodchip to an area where they were growing herbs, Sam and Lindsay swapped with Charlotte and John. This time they would be transporting the woodchip and we would be shovelling.

Yet, despite the late start and intermittent downpours, we finished moving as much woodchip as we could in 45 minutes. Just in time for the rainbow 🌈 to come out on the last day of Pride ☺️

Thanks John - playing catch up on deeds as May was quite low due to weekends away ;) got another holiday at the end of July, so need to ramp up good deeds at the start of the month to keep up with my yearly and overall targets - beat the current record of 333 good deeds in a year (bonus: 365 good deeds in a year - "a good deed a day") and get to my 1,000th by my 4th anniversary with GG (Mar 2023)! No easy feat and a challenge for sure.

The cycle of GROAD

Lambeth Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)

Charlotte, Kirsty and Sam met up with the volunteers of GROAD at St. Faith's Community Centre on Sunday to organise the main room for their Open House and to start packing the bags for the rough sleeper project.

Despite clearing as much of the Shed as possible, the donations received on the day helped fill back the Shed to the rim. It's the cycle of Get Rid Of And Donate (GROAD).

It was great to see Charlotte and Kirsty come for their second good deed after seeing them at their first one a few months ago. Hopefully, see you soon!

Charlotte completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Charlotte was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

We came, we SAW, we conquered!

Southwark Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)

With the beautiful Sunday morning sunshine shining through, five GoodGymers and a friend of Sam's, Aaron, came along to assist Ian with his Sunday morning Green Team session at Old Alleynian Rugby Club.

The five GoodGymers included two newbies, Charlotte and Kirsty who heard about GoodGym through a friend and wanted to check it out rather than sleeping in and having a Sunday brunch. Good choice and welcome again!

After meeting at the top of the drive, we headed down to see Ian and his two DoE volunteers tackling the area where we were on Wednesday evening for our group run. Ian had a few tools left for us to take, but he went back up to the shed to get a few sheers and rakes. After contemplating on what tools to choose, Charlotte, Daryl, Kirsty, Paulin and Sam chose between loppers, saws and rakes to start taking down the prickly trees, thorny brambles and invasive ivy.

Within the hour and ten minute session, we managed to cut and saw down metres upon metres of trees, brambles and ivy, which were all added to the massive pile of dead trees that has been developing over the past month and a bit!

Sam stopped the session 20 minutes early as he wanted to use the last 10-15 minutes to introduce the basics of rugby to everyone. Ian started off with some passing tips and techniques before we progressed to a touch rugby game. Everyone managed to get involved and hopefully, had some fun.

It wouldn't be a session with Ian without treats and he surely delivered with brownies for all! We're back at the end of May again, so please look out for that session on the GoodGym website!
