Toga gotcha yama!!! (Bad pun)

Liverpool Report written by Heetu

We, six good-gymers started on a sunny Saturday morning, meeting Kate from friends of festival gardens in the Japanese garden in Liverpool festival gardens near St Michael’s.

Some of us walked, one cycled and some enthusiastically came after their park runs!

Well the plan was to uncover hidden Japanese garden features- a hill, a wall and actual plants- which was all covered in bramble and ivy!

Interestingly the hill is Tsukiyama, Tsukiyama refers to the creation of man-made hills, and is a classic type of Japanese garden that embodies a miniature of natural scenery.

So we set to attacking the bramble carpet! A few hours later we had found the wall and could see the little hill, and we had made our own mounds of bramble -not sure if a new spiky feature is considered very Japanese gardeni though , anyway a Togatta - yama, please please nobody who knows or is Japanese read this!

Singing for Sean

Liverpool Report written by Pauline Harrison

GoodGym members, Pauline, and Sallyann, braved the cold at Crosby Parkrun, where they were met by Aditya, before heading for a well earned cuppa at a local café, frequented by Park Runners.

Amina, joined the small but determined Community Mission at Sean's Place, where we were met by members of their amazing team.

Sean’s Place aims to improve men’s mental health and well-being across Sefton and Liverpool City Region through support specifically identified to improve confidence and self-esteem for men whilst reducing symptoms of depression, stress and anxiety.

"Now more than ever we need to challenge the stigma around male mental health, we do this by providing a place that encourages positive discussions around mental health, in a non clinical, non judgemental setting through a variety of practical, proactive support and programmes."

The latest initiative at Sean's Place, is the formation of their Community 'Choir of Hope'.

Armed with bundles of leaflets, the awesome foursome set off to spread the word of the new choir.

Two hours, and 5K later, the last leaflets were distributed.

A great morning, helping an amazing charity: https://www.facebook.com/SeansPlaceuk

Amina Suleiman earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.

Amina completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Amina was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Two in one

Liverpool Report written by Sallyann Hardwick

It was Sunday morning in Liverpool and the Goodgymers were going to be busy today. There was an all day event organised for Car Free Day in one park The NHS games happening in the morning in another park and a 10k race happening in nearby Warrington.

Whilst Ema set up and kept the stall going at Car Free Day 5 Goodgymers (Amina Chris Eileen Heetu and Sallyann) went to help out at NHS games. we had been asked to help out at this two run events a 5k and a children's 1k which was organised for staff from the local NHS trusts.

The fabulous 5 or as someone called us Goodgym Kings and Queens were given the task of marshaling the courses. As we had plenty of time we walked a lap of the 2.5 lap route and gave us a chance for a chat together Eileen is part of the Parkrun volunteer team and as this 5k was using the same route it have Eileen a chance to share her knowledge with us.

it's always a pleasure to marshal and today was no exception. So many smiling faces despite the hills. Everyone achieved the 5k and were awarded medals (including two dogs).

After the 5k it was time to start the 1k... we had to run back to our marshal positions fortunately getting there in time. The children flew past with several parents having to work hard to keep up. Before we knew it it was over.

it was such a lovely thing to be involved with we all really enjoyed it. Thank you for the invite.

We left the park to reconvene over at our next task where Ema was holding the fort.

... oh and that Warrington 10k our Goodgymer Roz cheered on by her Mum and Goodgymer Jo only went and ran her legs off and came in with an exceedingly good time and a smile on her face. Well done Roz.
