Report written by JULIA GLEESON
It never rains but it pours
I'm not even going to mention those 2 words that are most widely used to describe our hometown. On a 3 week roll of wet Mondays this one didn't disappoint . With wet drizzle/rain and a south westerly prevailing fresh breeze I was proud that 10 GG heroes turned out in such challenging conditions.
Heroes don't all wear capes ( except Jay)
My heroes tonight were early birds Barbara and Sue closely followed by Paul, Natasha, Belinda and John and Anne. Jay just skidded in under the wire with Tamsin and Jemmie joining us at the task.
On this (not so) balmy evening we were heading to Heene cemetery for our final visit of the year to give our lovely friends Sue and Peter some help with the garden maintenance.
Only good spirits prevailed tonight
We arrived rather damp but happy and got stuck in straight away. Half the team were raking and barrowing the final grass cuttings of the year along the west side of the cemetery whilst the other half of the team worked on the outskirts of the cemetery with some pruning and sweeping of the pavements borders.
Despite the weather there was heartwarming energy and banter this evening. This is always helped when Jemmie makes a guest appearance and we have Jay trailing his GG heroe cape behind him in true super hero style.
A feature of this evening was the 3 super powerful lights that Uncle Ivo has bought us for use in winter months . Blinding but brilliant and rechargeable too . Thank you to Ivo and also Sue for her strapline tonight! How apt that that their first outing was in a graveyard:)
Theres always plenty to talk about on Monday nights and my group never disappoints. In this mental health awareness week lets take a moment in Worthing just to appreciate just how lucky we are with this small but mighty team of volunteers who I'm also proud to call my friends :)
Too wet to woo
We were hoping that we may spot some of the resident incumbents this evening. I can hear you laughing ! I'm talking about the wildlife ones! Sadly no such sightings this evening..... and no ghosts either.
What ? No fitness ?!
For the second week running I was hoping to preview the daily fitness challenge moves but yet again the weather closed in on us and, as were all soaked and getting increasingly colder, we unanimously decided to head straight back to base.
With waves and promises of 'see you next week' the team disappeared in all directions. We were even too wet to go to the pub!
Raincoat fashion award of the evening
Absolutely no contest here. The prize has to go to Natasha who was sporting a particularly snazzy stylish pink number. Looking like a super model rather than a runner , Natasha seamlessly blended the two together with some parisian flavour and glamour . Go girl! You absolutely nailed it!
In other news
It's this week that we find out about London marathon places ( John! )
Dont forget to let Tamsin know if you want to come to the Christmas party on Saturday December 14th. Only 4 places left!
Save the date . Open house at Chez Gleeson on Sunday 22nd December from 12 onwards. Pop in for a festive drink and canape with us ( Lets hope Nick reads this report as its the first he's heard of the date :)
If any of you have any winter task ideas please let me know.
Have a great week
See you at Worthing Leisure Centre next Monday. We are heading to Kamelia Kids

Light conservation work is carried out which includes wildflower management, coppicing and tree planting. The Cemetery, having been open since 1873, was closed for burials by an Act of Parliament after having been open for more than a hundred years. There are many clerics buried here, including the Bishop of Borneo, and there are four graves tended by the War Graves Commission. Designated a Sussex Site of Nature Conservation Importance, the graveyard is an oasis for wildlife in the Town Centre. An abundance of grasses and herbs more usually associated with unimproved old meadows can be seen during the summer. A complete botanical survey is carried out through the summer months, and visits are made to record bird and invertebrate species.
