On a day when Noah should have brought his ark to Cardiff, GoodGym Cardiff did their own ARK; Act of Random Kindness. 12 Goodgym runners ran to help out ISSA

Defiant against the weather we couldn’t wait to go running! We started with a Mr Men warm up led by Ben. This included:

  • Mrs Squat Jump
  • Mr Dizzy
  • Miss High Knees
  • Mr Jump
  • Mrs Karaoke

We also said our names and our favourite movie. Shawshank Redemption, IT, Stand By Me and Beach were some that got a mention.

After that fantastic game we were feeling warm and ready to go go go! We ran the streets of Cardiff, stopping at walls to do step ups. We found quiet streets to do sporadic sprints and we jumped over puddles which were more like lakes! Mikey needed encouragement to keep running and not to jump in the puddles. Lucy also jumped in a puddle at one point shouting "weeeeeeee".

Welcome EVERYONE to ISSA, we are thrilled to have you here

When we arrived at the task we were greeted by Dani who told us about ISSA “ISSA are a small mental health charity based. We have a medium sized garden area that has become overgrown and filled with debris. Unfortunately we don’t have the time or people power to get it cleared up, but we would love to make it a space for our clients, volunteers and staff to relax in... “ ISSA Wales supports the social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of BME and Muslim communities in Wales using a culturally sensitive, person centred approach that empowers its service users.

After hearing about this amazing organisation we couldn’t wait to get stuck in!

Everyone got stuck in for 30 minutes, moving wood and weeding in the garden area. I must add...many borderline comments were made relating to wood... There was debris in the garden area which runners moved and they cleared the shed so it could be used in the future.

Su did well at protecting the bluebells but Aimee pulled one up whilst Su wasn't watching... Well Su is going to know now it is in the run report! :)

Keira was also joining us for a second run and she is a FANTASTIC addition to the GoodGym family. Both Jess and Maya were weeding like there was no tomorrow... those weeds did not stand a chance!

The joke for the run… can you work out the answer What is a runners favouite topic at school?

The Answer is at the bottom of the report :)

Time to run home

We had a fantastic time helping out at ISSA. We can’t wait to help out there again!! Good luck to everyone taking part in Newport Marathon/ 10k this weekend. After the run we went to the Glassworks for cheeky beverages and the two pint Tuesday team tried to come up with puns for the run.
