Here's what Mrs P of CF5 had to say about the mission:

'We just wanted to say thank you so much to the volunteers, they have made the world of difference to my grandparents and we can't thank them enough!'

Mrs P of CF5, mission beneficiary

On a grey day, Mikey and I met to explore a new part of Cardiff and to help Mrs P with her garden.  Chatting about our weekend as we ran, we reached Mrs P's home in no time at all.

Mrs P gave us a warm welcome and introduced us to her husband telling us that they had been married for an incredible 66 years!  She warned us that the garden might be a challenge and showed us through the house to their lovely conservatory with a view of the garden.  Mrs P wanted us to pull up some of the weeds at the side of her house.  Mrs P put her feet up while we made a start.

Looking around the garden, we were pleased to meet Bill and Ben, the flowerpot men who had taken up residence on the garden bench and several happy looking gnomes!  We pulled up the weeds along the path in no time at all and turned our attention to the gravel area, clearing that of weeds too.

Mrs P popped out to offer us a cuppa and kindly provided us with some bottles of water.  Mrs P explained that they had lived in this house for 31 years and had really loved the garden but had been unable to maintain it as well in recent times.

Time for us to continue our work.  Mikey's eyes lit up as he found a pair of loppers so we attacked the brambles at the back of the garden in an effort to stop the spread.  Mikey, eventually, had to stop himself from trimming the entire garden but as the bin was full, he reluctantly put the loppers down.

We admired our handiwork and let Mrs P know that we had finished.  Mr and Mrs P thanked us for all our efforts and were really pleased with the newly pruned garden!  We bid them a fond farewell before weaving our way back to our meeting point.

This was my 100th good deed and a reminder of what first prompted me to go along to GoodGym - the opportunity to help people in a small way and to meet new friends.  Here's to the next 100!
