It was a cheerful group, fully up for a damp Monday night challenge, who made their way to Hollybush Gardens to the usual dynamic and warm welcome from task owners Margaret and Michael.

Margaret wasted no time in dispatching two teams to the two tasks: one team was tasked with removing netting and weeding from allotment beds, while a second team accompanied Michael to the garden area to tackle the thorny issue of overgrown rose bushes.

The teams didn't stop, as usual, for 45 minutes working relentlessly, getting stuck in amongst nasty nettles and worm-filled crevices. Tucked away, not so discreetly, were morsels deposited by the Easter bunny which the group proceeded to savvily-save for some pre-training carb-loading. This stash was kindly topped up by Margaret who presented the group with chocolate bunnies upon completion of the task.

Awards of the night

Find of the Night goes to Bryon who came across an 'interesting' looking CD on his weeding travels, while Weeding Warrior award should probably go to Manuel who was fearless in filling an oversized sack with treacherous rose cut-offs, his strategy being to CLIMB INSIDE the bag itself...

Onwards to Middleton Green

And so the group headed off to nearby Middleton Green for some more lower body work. After a brilliant risk assessment by the runners, a nearby park bench was deemed the most suitable surface for step-ups - the group divided into a step-up group and a single-leg deadlift group - before continuing the glute session with skipping lunges, single-leg touchdowns and curtsey lunges (with a hip extension - sorry for more miserable balance work, guys), finishing with an easy side lunge-shift. Heavy legged, we headed back to base for a (deliberate) detour, the route saved AGAIN by Bryon top navigator.

Thank you to Hannah for smooth, steady, never-out-of-sight backmarking and to Becky for great stats, and calorie-burning reporting too (we ran 1.29 miles each - 9.07 miles between us - with the running alone burning 131 cals. The evening in total would easily have offset those Creme Egg calories...).

Another lovely, highly-productive evening from Team Tower Hamlets, and, as I write this, a text has popped up from task owner Margaret asking me to send you a big hug and a big thank you. See? You really do rock.

Can't wait to do it all again next week - we're heading to Cranbrook for painting the vegetable beds and tidying the design centre, so do sign up here!

(And don't forget, it's the GoodGym social on Thursday if you fancy a friendly, end-of-week unwind. Details and sign up are here.)
