Feeling ready for anything, 22 task-seekers ran 5km and helped out with various jobs at Crofton Books.

A slightly quieter week than last week, with our unprecedented number of milestones, but we did welcome a first-timer into the fold. Lewisham Love this week to Olivia, who entered into the whole thing with great enthusiasm!

It was a busy weekend of goodness, with Nykolette helping out again at the King's Christmas trees, Emma off over to our neighbouring Bromley for a lovely, musical community mission and Vic and Juliet tearing around dressed as Santa. Phewee! We have an opportunity for you to join in this weekend as well, with a few community missions with King's Christmas trees, here in Catford, Beckenham, Deptford or Dulwich. Sign up and help out, it's a wonderful cause and a fun task.

Merry Croftmas!

After a swift warm-up, we headed towards Ladywell and up and over to Crofton Park, with our top team of back-markers, Rosemary, Nykolette and Marta keeping us together at the back. Thankyou!

It was exciting heading up the road towards the library and bookshop, with lights sparkling and music playing...then the scent of fresh fir trees as we turned into the forecourt. Once we were all inside, Jason took time to explain all the jobs to us, with Elvis singing Christmas songs in the background. We had a wide selection of very varied jobs going on:

  • Working with Clickmas outside, wrapping trees, moving them to their storage space, bringing some inside - an all-round great upper body workout!

  • We had sweeping and hoovering up of dropped pine needles

  • Wiping down the bookshelves (whilst browsing of course)

  • Tying ribbon around books, making them look like the perfect gift that they are

  • Using a guillotine to cut little Christmas greetings sheets

  • Devising new name panels for the different sections of the bookshop

Christmas Chi-er

As we came to a close, we enjoyed the Roses that had been left for us by Silvana (thank you!), then quickly realised our error as Chi, on tour from Haringey, gave us a blast of his now (in)famous 'Abs on Tour'. Let's just say my fitness sessions will feel like a little lie down after this!

Next week will be our last run of 2018 (my, how time has flown!). So sign up and join us for a 5k round-trip to Beecroft Garden Primary School, where we will keep warm with some digging, raking , sweeping and weeding. There will be Christmas-themed fitness and, of course, Christmas-themed treats.

See you then!
