Not our usual Group Run night, but adding an extra one this week because TRAID needed our assistance as they had to clear out their shop for a new fashion season.

Four GoodGymers - Adam, Katy, Natalia and Sam - met at the one and only, Old Spike Roastery. As Sam informed them of some upcoming missions this weekend and next month including our last group run of the year on Wednesday 15th of December, which we'll have a Xmas social afterwards. After a quick warm-up, we had our ice-breaker question in theme with tonight's task:

Tonight's ice-breaker question - what is the one item of clothing you cannot get rid of? I said my running shoes as you never know when there's a rainy and muddy day that you can wear your old shoes and not get your new ones dirty, we also had hiking boots (which have holes in them), leather boots and a leather brown jacket....it's all about the leather goods!

Peaceful Peckham Rye Park

Adam, Katy, Natalia and Sam ran from Old Spike down towards Peckham Rye Park. The park is quite dark at night with very limited street lighting and luckily, Katy and Sam had their headtorches and paired up with the other two as they ran around Peckham Rye, back around to the Rye and down Rye Lane to TRAID, which is by The Aylesham Centre. The total run took us 15 minutes to do 2.8k. 🔥

A quickie in the shop

Not quite what you are thinking, but close enough! 🙄 When we arrived at TRAID, Mabel greeted us, but we noticed the shop was almost clear. Liam arrived shortly after we did and joined the gang. It seemed like the staff at TRAID Peckham had pretty much done everything, but there was a small section for us to clear. As one of the staff put it, "Mabel's runners" were here. Yes, we were here, here to help out. 💪

Mabel and her runners

Sounds like an Indie band, with hits such as "Run Away", "Marriage is a Marathon", "Pacing for our love" and of course, the classic, "If you were miles away, I would sprint for you today (Miles Away)". 🎵

With no time to lose, we were shown what to do: take the clothes off the rack with their hangers on, fold them into a large steel cage and repeat the process, but put the next set of clothes clockwise. We all weren't on with the clockwise process, but Katy came to grips with it and was in charge. Did I mention it was a quickie? It surely was. The task was done in 15 minutes, there was even an extra bit at the end where we moved the clothes racks to the side of the shops to clear the middle. It was great to help out with what we can, but it was unexpectedly quick, so I thought we should all go for another run to complete a 5k in total. We said our goodbyes to Mabel.

We had a quick look on Google Maps to see what route we could run and I wanted to ensure we got some hills in. We identified Grove Hill as a spot to run an out and back route to reach near Peckham Rye, so that Adam could catch his train from there before the rest of us ran back to Old Spike Roastery taking the back routes. We ran just over 3k in 20 minutes, which takes our total to 5.8k tonight in 35 minutes. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

We finished at 19:45, but seeing that this was an extra group run this week, we still got to "get fit and do good".

Tomorrow night, we have our regular Wednesday Group Run. We're flyering around Dulwich Village for Get Rid Of And Donate - GROAD. Can't make it? How about next week? We're heading to Salvation Army Nunhead to complete a task we started a few weeks ago - sorting out donated books and creating a space into a reading/library area.

Thank You Mabel & Rodrigo

GoodGym is all about getting fit and doing good! We praise the runners/cyclists/walkers who come to get fit and help out, but we often forget about our task owner(s) and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mabel for letting us help out and to Rodrigo for coordinating and organising it. We'll be back to assist when you next need us!
