Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Last night the GoodGym crew, attired in G.O.O.D. vests, ran out into Tower Hamlets on two separate missions.
One team ran to Victoria Park, the rangers had set the mission of trimming back the hedges near Canal Gate. Report to follow soon. Get in touch if you were there.
The other group ran a tough 800m round the corner to a patch of underloved land that the Approach Tenants and Residents Association have taken on and are beginning to improve. Vibeke met us on site and talked us through the job: we had to plant and protect a large number of saplings along one side of the garden, dig 10 sizeable holes and fill them in with higher quality soil, and shift a ton sack of mulch across the site.
The planting team made short work of getting sapplings settled into their new home and drove in stakes to support plastic protection to keep them safe. The digging team hit rubble just beneath the surface and chipped away with spades and a pickaxe, pulling all kinds of debris apparently from World War II bombings. Finally, planters and diggers reunited as a single force to get the mulch bag shifted, before running off south to Museum Gardens for 7 reps of high intensity 30m sprints.
