Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Jo Kitching
This evening we had a double task, one was staying indoors and making lanterns for the light parade. The other was heading back to Miltoncross to continue with the clearing of the green space area.
On the way to the indoor task Jo spotted the Red Arrows but was unable to get a photo at the time. Next time she’ll be more prepared.
Getting Crafty with it
Aoife, India, Jen, Jo and Vicki met Anna from Fratton Big Local and we sat down to be given instructions as to how we were to make the lanterns. Jen was on her 3rd Goodgym task of the day and was assisted by her daughter Alice who had also come to make lanterns with us. We had to start making the initial structure and at one point we thought the sticks looked like the mini breadsticks you get at Christmas. Maybe that’s because some of us hadn’t yet had dinner so were a little hungry. The structures took a while making sure we had everything stuck together and thought it was similar to Bake Off when we were half way through the task and no where near finished. Once structures were completed the fun part began where we would stick the tissue paper onto the lantern with glue. This became quite tricky when we had to turn them over and they would stick to the table. Once decorated we admired our crafting skills and once dried they will be used at the light festival on 19th Nov.
Getting Diggy with it
Judy, Maura and Tony headed to Miltoncross to continue clearing the green space area. They were joined again by Charlotte (the senior student) and her parents. They chopped and cleared some more of the nettles, brambles and trees. It's starting to look clearer. Unfortunately the torrential rain didn't really help but it did give the waterproofs a good test out for the season!
More winter clearing tasks will take place at Miltoncross over the next few months.
