Saturday morning was alotta fun!

It's Saturday!!! Saturday is often the day many people look forward to throughout the week, and this Saturday was no different. We were all excited to celebrate Andrew's birthday by participating in a community mission with him which involved gardening at the Global Gardens Allotment.

Andrew and Ben met on Lloyd George Avenue and ran together to the allotment. As it was Andrew's birthday, and he was another year wiser, most conversation he made consisted of proverbs - If you imagine running with Yoda from Star Wars then you will get a clear picture of what it was like. "If you run faster, then you will get there quicker" was a classic line!

Ellen headed from her home, Freddie ran from his, Emma (who lives further away) drove part way and then ran, Flo ran from hers, Marie from hers and Emyr also ran. You could say it was quite a runderful way of active travel.

Welcome to the allotment

Poppy greeted us with a HUGE smile. We love running to help Poppy as her personality is so friendly. Without further ado she told us what our tasks would be for the day and then we got stuck straight in. Freddie explains what he did:

"I was part of a group who weeded and spread woodchips over an area which can now be used for outdoor cooking - a social space for the people who use the allotment. Job well done!"

Freddie was helped by Flo, Emyr and Ben.

Emma, Ellen, Marie and Andrew weeded the other side of the allotment and laid fresh woodchip down afterwards - It honestly looked amazing after they had finished. Marie is a self acclaimed wheelbarrow pouring champion, did you know?

Thanks everyone!!

After approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes we had finished. Hooray! Poppy thanked everyone for their help and we thanked Poppy for getting us out of our cosy beds to do something AMAZING for our community. Poppy also said a special thank you to Ben; this is likely to be Ben's last visit to the Global Gardens allotment for a long time before he moves away from Cardiff to Cornwall. Ben has been arranging runs to help at the allotment since 2017.
