Barnet Report written by Antonio (he/him)
We arrived, a heathy group of 7 Goodgymers (Valeria, Niki Jay Tailor , Cloud and Antonio) and two new members who joined our Barnet group today, so a round of applause to Josh and Alejandra. It was also great to meet Danny from GoodGym Brent! Today’s community task was no mean feat. In spite of the record turnout (there were many others who attended from the surrounding area) the battalion of volunteers present had an intense time digging out old bricks from the undergrowth, pruning, weeding and laying down wood chippings to improve the paths along this beautiful tiny forest (not the Tiny forest where we also go). Then the heavens opened and we all got exceedingly wet. In spite of that, because we are Good gym Barnet, we had a good laugh and got lot’s of work done! So let’s give a hand to all of us who turned up. And a big thank you to Richard, Maria and Karen who organised the task. With this level of turnout we are going to need more garden tools next time!

This was an unusual group gathering to celebrate Halloween by scaring and helping the community at the same time! We had cyclists and runners converging on Friary Park to help them prepare the ground for bulb planting. (rather than the usual run from the Phoenix Cinema.) We had four spooky cyclists heading from East Finchley and three terrifying runners looping the park. We met with Richard who outlined the task, provided tools and weapons... so that malevolent mummy, spider woman, pumpkin face, mad clown , grim reaper and the two stooges could set to work. The local inhabitants must’ve been taken aback by this sickening site! Once we had 'exercised' our demons we cleared up the mess and headed to the clouds ( The mad clown) for a slap up Halloween feast. thanks for coming running, cycling, scaring and helping! it was spook tacular fun!
thanks to Cloud for hosting and those that brought some food.

Three GoodGym runners helped out at Park runs in London. marshals and volunteers required to scan the membership codes and finishing tags. It was a beautiful Saturday morning with hundreds of runners enjoying the weather and the undulating course at Hampstead.
and .....
Lordship Recreation which is a lovely new Parkrun in the heart of Tottenham in Haringey. Today 257 enthusiasts plus some buggies ran, walked and jogged through the sunny fields of Lordship Lane. There were a few milestones anniversaries, including a 250th and there were plenty of GM from Haringey, Walthamstow and Barnet helping in various tasks, which was immediately followed by coffee & cake. Everyone was super excited about adding a new venue to the Parkrun community. It was a great atmosphere all around.

A few GoodGym members came together to help a local primary school with it forest paths. Most of us ran a very short distance from phoenix cinema to the school. Where we met with John who gave us shovels, wheelbarrows and rakes to move woodchip into the forest and along the paths. We worked quickly helped by the new dry woodchip and managed to get most of the path done. This allowed us time to run back a little bit earlier to have a celebratory drink and a piece of cake for clouds belated birthday!
thanks for coming running and doing some good!

8 GoodGym runners met at the Phoenix cinema on Tuesday evening to do good and get fit. This time we were helping to reduce the food waste and the task owner Daniela to donate the braeburn apples. After a short run we met with Daniela who were kindly waiting for us on the pavement to make sure we find the address. She led the way through her garden to the orchard. Oh gosh what a little hidden gem 💎 it was behind the Barnet streets. We picked apples 🍎 from the trees 🌴 by hand and fruit pickers. This time of the year gets dark sooner but this did not hold us back to do some fruit picking with head torches 🔦🔦🔦 and have fun in the dark.
At the end of the group run we took some apple to home to bake apple pie or something yummy 😋.
