Brighton Pride is an un-miss able event in our city, to be proud of! This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first ‘Brighton Gay Pride March’ organised by the Sussex Gay Liberation Front (SGLF) in July 1973.
Proud to contribute to the city-wide “Pride at 50 Campaign”, we run around Brighton city centre to spot as many posters as possible on the lampposts and tag the photos of the first Sussex Gay Liberation Front's ‘Brighton Gay Pride March'. The campaign is meant to remember and uplift some of the trailblazers whose actions ignited, and continue to build, the Pride movement.
GoodGym certainly contributed with (physical) movement 😊!
We also did some litter picking to tidy up and clean our seafront preparing to host the wave of visitors this Pride weekend. This was a warmup for our GoodGym community mission organised on Sunday morning together with Brighton &Hove Tidy Up Team. Balance fitness exercises up and down the stairs on the lower seafront was our cool down.
Join us this weekend to be proud to celebrate Brighton Pride!
Here are the details of the foyer exhibition “Pride at 50” celebrating the Sussex Gay Liberation Front.

We like to “step up” on Cat’s Creep to help the Round Hill Society and, on this occasion, we supported the community volunteers in their Big Clean Up. We cleared Cat Creep from the overgrown bushes, tackled graffiti tagging, removed carpets of ivy from Mayo Road, and revamped electrical boxes to their original colours. Lucy returned to help us from the Library of Things with a new tool, the edge trimmer, creating some alternative entertainment for Councillor Pete West who joined GoodGymers Frances, Jane, Nicola, and Edel to enjoy some trimming fun action!
Top job done by GoodGymers Rosie, Kitty, Sarah, and Michelle has given a new refreshing look to the lovely pathway that joins Round Hill Crescent with Wakefield Road - well used by the local residents and often populated by the protected tods! GoodGym Brighton got already an invitation for helping the Round Hill Green Spaces Project – this has just got planning permission to go ahead thanks to the unsatiable hard work and patient determination of two well-known local legends, Jane and Dominic!

5 GoodGym-ers ran 1km (a hyper-local mission!) to help out at the Waterloo Street Community Garden, a much loved community space 100% staffed by volunteers, 100% organically tended and 100% funded by donations and applied-for grants.
Shimmering with true secret garden vibes, the space is accessed through an ornate arch guarded by a statue with legendary local status. Once inside, you cannot help but be cheered by the lush tropical palms and colourful blooms nestled in an array of pots lining the secluded courtyard.
We donned our gardening gloves while the cheerful and industrious volunteers already hard at work set us to task moving and sweeping, weeding and cleaning. As we worked, the group explained more about their upcoming visit from a respresentative from the Royal Horticultural Society's 'It's Your Neighbourhood' programme. This programme supports local communities in greening community spaces through support, mentoring and connecting communities with network of other like minded groups across the country. Registration to the scheme is also incredibly useful for small, grassroots (pun intended) groups in applying for ongoing funds to keep their spaces thriving.
The brewing storm clouds finally burst just as we finished work, giving the garden a much needed water and the GG crew a refreshing run home.
Excellent pun courtesy of Philippa :)

As you all well know me, I don’t miss any opportunity to celebrate simply and have fun this year! And, at this Tuesday regular GoodGym session, I really wanted to share all my greatest happiness about having just reached my first 50 GoodGym deeds goal with my friendly GoodGym community in Brighton! Being your Area Activator is one of the most rewarding gifts, and it is all of you who make the Good Change in my life. GRAZIE!
We all love our GoodGym group sessions to get fit together while making good!
On this occasion, we trialed a new format of GoodGym social gathering helping each other with a Good Mission! What a perfect opportunity to open my friendlyland’s doors to the GoodGym-ers to help me to manage my overgrown garden and bushes! I prove to dedicate most of my endless energy to a lot of diverse community volunteering projects across Brighton & Hove but I often end up forgetting my domestic duties, who doesn’t …
No surprise we got so much done in my garden thanks to the Brighton GoodGym collaborative action!
Homedmade Italian pizza was on the evening menu. It was very nice to seat together around my kitchen table and share with you all what are the GoodGym Charity directions!
We certainly need to repeat this endervour. I promise that Athletics Brewery beers will be delivered on time for our session on the 18th July. Pencil this in your diary!
