Paint it BLACK

Cardiff Report written by Michael

We see an old fence and we want to paint it black.......

Well it turns out our last trip of the year to the community hall was not as we thought, we returned to help with the mighty task of painting the fence.

11 goodgymers huddled together on a chilly evening, ready to take on the WORLD

Back for their second time was Chloe, welcome you regular you. And we had the return of one who started us all those years ago...... Benjamin

CROESO

Off we went on those mean streets of Cardiff (not really mean, us Welsh are very nice) and we had a nice steady pace to St. James Community Hall.

Tonight's task, to wire brush the fence that we had previously freed from the ivy..... Whilst the rest of us painted as much as we could in the time we had.

You could definitely feel the Autumnal crisp chill this evening, but we were soon warmed by the gratitude of the choir as they came out from the hall to see what we were getting up to. Impressed by the amount of us, they even offered us the food they had left.

DIOLCH

We made our way back to the Daffodil, to warm up and catch up. We will return one more time this year.... As its a BIG fence.

Johnny and the Smurfs

Cardiff Report written by Michael

A nice run today away from too much hustle and bustle of the city, following the embankment by the river.

Our journey, leading us to the Community Hall of St. Pauls.

Our task..... To remove all growing, tangled vegetation on the railings... And there were a lot of railings.

As we arrived we got together with those that had made their own way to the task, but realised one was missing. Just as Michael was about to send out a message a figure appeared from the hall...

Are you the runners?

How did they know... Well, it turned out our missing Holly had arrived early and decided to join the choir inside. And what a great time they were having.

To the task... We all got gloved up (Safety First) and picked our tools from Julian's (Our task organiser) car boot. No messing around, Michael put up lights to help as the darkness enveloped the group, but not our spirit!

Along the way we managed to find 2 vodka bottles, lots of rubbish, some tea bags and a Clock....

Our last visit to the community hall this year, and a great success.

See you all on the next task soon.

Take me to Church

Cardiff Report written by Michael

A great turn out tonight, as 17 goodgymers took to the streets to get active a do some good.

Our last visit to this Church, at least for this year, so it was lovely to see so many of us there. A somewhat awkward start as our organiser was stuck in traffic but that just gave us time to get social and have a chat.

Lets not forget some welcomes......

CROESO

Chloe on their first goodgym visit, great meeting you and see you back again soon. Jake back for their second task.

There was plenty to chat about as we have the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday, expect some goodgym cheers out on the course.

Michael received a call from the organiser, and just like that we could get started - after being told where to get the tools from. It wasn't much longer until they arrived, and we were early to the task anyway!

  • Task 1 - Cut down the hebe some more, trip back the plants growing over the curb and a general weeding of the front.
  • Task 2 - Clean inside one of the community spaces and help to put up dado rail type thing.
  • Task 3 - Clean out the back of the Church.

Everyone got to work to get as much done as possible, the front of the building looked beautiful and tidy, the rail was up in the hall and a good chunk of the back was weed free.

Thanks to all for coming tonight.

Get signed up for next week when you can.

They call it mellow yellow (Quite rightly)

Cardiff Report written by Michael

A couple of last minute arrivals, a change of task because of a change in weather... It's all go with goodgym tonight.

As it was a nice evening it was decided to get our paint on... But not until we rock the bin bag look.

On the metal arch, with a very drippy gloss one coat paint were Cecil, Dylan and Sophie. Trying their best not to splatter the floor as they went.

In the office, painting a very lovely mellow yellow wall was Holly and Su. Fans blasting to keep them cool.

And last but by no means least, on the vacuuming duty on the stairs.... The one and only Jihaad.

Our 30 minutes flew by and it was time for a few sandwiches and crisps whilst catching up with our friends at Samye.

Our run tonight, a nice 2.5km each way (sandwiched with the task) for a good total of 5km. The group at the front led by Michael, on a speedy finish. And our chatty group with Su have a lovely time.

A great way to spend a Tuesday, fun friends, fitness and volunteering.
