Keeping Luton Tidy as part of the Great British Spring Clean

This week we had unfinished business to deal with!
The poly-tunnel at the Lea Vale community garden proved to be a mental challenge a few weeks ago as we attempted to build it without instructions or even a picture! We did a great job figuring it out and nearly finished putting it together too, but unfortunately ran out of time.
So this week we ran up Farley Hill once again, tunnel vision focused on completing the structure so the team at the garden can get the strawberries growing! ๐
We found the frame as we left it, with just a few poles still to bolt on but it wasn't quite as simple as that, still some head scratching to do. Some subtly different poles had gone on in the wrong place last time so we had to hunt down the errors and correct them before we could finish. But finish we did, and even put the canopy on top and tied the whole thing down so it doesn't blow away!
The wind was bitterly cold so by the time we were done a round of hot teas โ was just what we needed to get the feeling back in our fingers before running back down the hill into town filled with warm tea and warm feelings of a job well done ๐๐ผ

3 GoodGymmers arrived on this sunny morning to support Edible High Town. There was a big ol bag of compost which needed transporting to planters located a few streets away. Rachel led the charge and gave us our instructions, navigating with wheelbarrow and tools in tow. Then we got to work shovelling the compost in to some planters which had helpfully been labelled up ready for our arrival. Then it was time to pack up and job done! Great work team. ๐

Two GoodGymmers joined 2 Azalea regular volunteers along with Tracey, to help sort through the mountain of donations theyโve received. This was a mammoth task, as donations had been coming in thick and fast and all been stored in the buildings basement which had become increasingly more full. There was little floor space to begin with, but before long we were sorting donations in to separate piles and categories, organising the chaos. Different types of clothing, unsuitable items and clothing to send to different charities. There was also jewellery, toiletries and bedding as well as a pram. Laura was particularly excited by this task, as she enjoys organising and threw herself straight in! We made great progress and between us, got through the whole basement of donations. Tracey was really grateful for our help, this will make a big difference to the charity and allow them to support the women who need assistance. Great job!
