Sense of en-title-ment

Thursday 21st March

Written by York runner

There was a bumper selection of children's and young adult fiction for our task today in preparation for an extra big Easter sale. So we duly reflected this in our book choices - Mr Jelly for Martin, Things that Growl for Nikki and Tickly Octopus for Lucy, while Radu went for Ready Made, inspired by the instructions for a pallet bike-rack (watch this space...).

Fact or fiction?

Thursday 25th January

Written by York runner

We met at Tang Hall Library for our regular task setting up their monthly book sale.

As always, the main challenge was sorting fact from fiction... although we took no chances, and left a debatable "(50 shades of) grey area" between the two.

It was great to see new member Abbie, who got the non-fiction section looking more orderly than ever before.

We once again picked our favourite books at the end, with Angela aspiring to the Perfectly Imperfect Home, while Nikki was Livin' the Dreem and Leanne was Sew Kawaii.

Pulp fiction

Thursday 4th January

Written by York runner

After a jolly social run for some of us, we returned to some old classics - books of course - at the Tang Hall Library. And welcomed new Goodgymer Radu to his first task!

The sale had already been out for a while, but we topped up the stand and were entrusted with deciding which books might prove unsellable and fit only for pulping... after slight disagreement on this point, we agreed to leave it up to the book buyers by putting out some lighter fiction alongside a heavier tome by Sophocles.

Martin, Nikki and Mitch were given the additional task of "removing Christmas" by taking down the Christmas tree.

As is traditional, we finished by selecting our favourite titles for the photo, with running a strong theme - Neil was Running on the cracks, while Vicky opted to Scream if you want to go faster.

Fully booked

Thursday 30th November 2023

Written by York runner

After the end of November gave us a sneaky surprise, four noble Goodgymers added a last-minute task to an already busy week for Goodgym York.

We came, we sorted, we found a new favourite book each - Richard opted for the Ups and Downs of being in your 40s, Nikki learned how to test her cat, Lucy took the Little Book of Cheese... and Mitch managed to pick a book with neither words nor title.

Writer's block

Thursday 26th October 2023

Written by York runner

We are old hands at this task now, so we speedily unloaded the books ready for the Tang Hall Library book sale before spending the same amount of time again trying to find a witty and amusing story to tell with the titles.

The idiot buried Cheryl; gone, colossal cracks. To be continued...

We'll keep working on it - a glittering literary career awaits!

Book sale of the century

Thursday 5th October 2023

Written by James Tilburn

Two veterans of this task returned to the Tang Hall Library to set up the monthly book sale.

The big news this month was that the Jeremy Clarkson book had either finally been sold or humanely destroyed. Luckily plenty more high quality books were available and so we were able to set up four tables full of books that will turn into much needed funds for the library.
