Not just fun and games ✨

Wednesday 30th April

Written by Diya Singh (she/her)

10 GoodGymers gathered at the Riverside family hub on a perfect Spring evening to take on the wish list prepared by the task owner. We love a well organised task!

In true GoodGym spirit, we tackled the "Extra hard challenge" first: a very heavy bug hotel which needed moving. Very quickly the group decided this was futile. Even if we could move the bug hotel, it wouldn't go through the gate. The task owner and all present concurred the best thing was to build a new one in the wildlife garden. Maybe we'll get called back for that fun task!

We dispersed onto other things then:

  • Viv, Angela and Roberta attacked the bindweed covering the gravel by the main gate.
  • Julie took to de-weeding the tractor-tyres-turned-planters and then onto bindweed as well.
  • Tony, Sheila, Kanika and Diya weeded the veg patch, the gravel area and the pond side.
  • Amy and Jess gave the deck and benches a good scrub.

Once the hard work was done, it was time for some play! Amy and Kanika stretched out on the...mounds (?), Amy did planks on the plank and pretty soon, a circuit took shape! There was running, step ups, tricep pushes and some other activities which involved jumping and a lot of laughing.

Task owner Heather had very kindly set out some refreshments for us. We enjoyed delicious fruits and beverages which was a perfect end to a productive mission.

Toad in the drain and other surprises

Wednesday 4th September 2024

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

The evening session at the Riverside Family Hub was well attended by many GoodGymers. It gave an opportunity to catch up on summer stories and share the travel memories.

Thank you Gillian for leading the task.

The aim of the session was to clear weeds and debris from the playground, car park and the pebbled area. The team soon got stuck into the task by pulling up the giant web of bindweed. It causes a lot of surprised faces at the tenacity of weedy plans to invade the environment.

Team soon split up to clean up different areas of the community centre. Everyone found something to do and also finding a time to have friendly chats and hugs. The most muddy task was to pull out the soil from the drain holes. Then came the squeeky sound from Amy who had pulled a toad out out of the drain. Nicola was brave enough to pick up the toad and transfer it to the pond in the garden corner. Sol was running behind to capture the moment.

Light was soon fading and the team finished up with the tidying tasks. We did felt that the summer is out and September is here bring autumn feeling. Everyone gathered in the play area to celebrate Sol's 100th good deed! Sheila had kindly baked an apple cake (which was so delicious and similar to Latvian apple cake). Great effort. Heartfelt thank you from everyone.

The hilight of the evening was the delivery of Amy's poem called "Sol Sol Sol". The verses were absolutely genius rhyming with elegantly. The delivery of the poem was magnificient causing everyone to laugh and waiting what the next verse will bring out. We heard about Sol and sunshine, about Soil and earth, about cents and Peru currency, about soul and friendships.

I'm so proud to be part of the Goodgym team! Love you all!

There’s a hole in my pond dear GoodGym, dear GoodGym

Wednesday 10th July 2024

Written by Louise Tyrell

10 GoodGym members made their way to the Riverside family hub to help spruce up their garden area and find and mend a hole in their pond

We jumped straight in and within minutes weeds were being removed, areas were being raked over, the decking was being swept and the pond was being emptied

A whole yellow hippo bag was soon filled to the brim and the garden area was looking spic and span ready to be used by all the children

Sheila - a lady of many talents reshaped the pond so there would be no more leaks and once the stones were replaced the pond was refilled ready for new(t) pond life to come and visit

Once we had tidied up we hopped on over to the table where there was cake and cheers to celebrate Angela hitting an amazing 50 tasks- well done Angela!, Let’s hope there is more cause to celebrate after the England game!
