A-MAZE-ING WORK IN KENTISH TOWN! 💚💚💚

Wednesday 4th March

Written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

12 GoodGymers take multiple lifts and elevators on a Wednesday night!

The Greenwood Centre in Kentish Town looks like it should make sense.

It's not especially large and it doesn't appear to be meandering.

Someone might look up and remark: That's a nice glass cube! Bet you can't get lost in there!

How wrong they would be!

There are gardens on the roof and out the back and off a random room on level one — you can't turn a corner without finding a garden!

And while I was busy getting bemused and confused, this special group were busy making a wonderful difference ❤️

Last night we welcomed Abigail on their first good deed (welcome!) and Caterina on their first trip to Camden GG (welcome!), as well as fabulous regular faces 👉 Ariane, Danny, Gary, Jackie, John, Kareem, Karen, Steve, and Thierry (great to see you all!)

Together they:

💚 Pulled weeds from seemingly every gutter bordering every garden on every floor!

💚 Shifted heavy bags of soil and sand and gravel and mulch 👉 upstairs to downstairs and downstairs to upstairs!

💚 And multiple other small tasks that make a big difference!

Thank you, everyone!

Kentish Town + 60 Happy (and Impactful!) Minutes!

Wednesday 4th February

Written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

9 GoodGymers caught 60 good deeding minutes in Camden!

Nestled on an innocuous side road — out of reach from Kentish Town's bustle — is a super special and wonderfully accessible building...

..the Greenwood Centre serves local people with disabilities and it is all glass and sharp design and...

...community green spaces too!

Which is where this special group — of Ariane, Danny, Kamil, Karen, Lydia, Pritika, Steph, and Steve — spent 60 wonderful minutes on Wednesday!

Together we:

💚 Dug out a (huge) planter, removed (so many) deadwood branches, and installed new irrigation!

💚 Decanted stones and gravel and other helpful materials into small bags ready for easy access and use :)

💚 Watered sprouting broccoli!

💚 Cleared and sorted the tool shed :)

💚 Weeded a paving area leaving it neat and tidy!

Thank you so much, everyone!

🌲🌲🌲 Central London Good Deeding! 🌲🌲🌲

Wednesday 10th December 2025

Written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

6 GoodGymers caught some good deeding vibes amidst London’s festive fare!

Settled in the heart of Piccadilly sits St James’s Church.

At this time of year, it is a favourite of tourists and Londoners alike (arriving for carols and services aplenty), and we had to bustle our way through the crowds to arrive on time last night.

Yet we were soon off and away to a peaceful garden, where this special group — of Alex, Charlie, Imogen, Kush (new to GoodGym — a huge welcome!), and Steve — made a wonderful difference.

Huge and bountiful trees border this green space, and they’ve been shedding their summer coats since October. Our task was to rake the lawns and sweep the paths, clearing the leaves for good for another year.

The brilliant Catherine from Green City Projects was our host, and alongside her we turned a leaf strewn garden into a clear, safe, and tidy spot in just 60 minutes.

Thank you, everyone! Here’s to next time!

Six Brave the Cold!!!

Wednesday 19th November 2025

Written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

6 GoodGymers braved the chill in Camden last night!

While most Londoners huddled in thick coats one special group were busy with wheelbarrows and shovels and hedge trimmers too.

Assembling at Charlie Ratchford Court alongside the lovely Catherine from Green City Projects, Hannah, Jackie, John, Siobhan, and Steve didn't look cold at all!

No task was too much effort for this crew! Together we:

✅ Removed a tarpaulin sheet from a soon-to-be-planted flower bed

✅ Emptied a GIANT sack of sand into endless wheelbarrows for safe depositing

✅ Emptied another GIANT sack of soil into fresh planters

✅ Cut tens (maybe hundreds..!) of overhanging branches

✅ And more!

It is wonderful seeing what 6 pairs of hands can achieve ❤️

Thank you so much, everyone! Here's to next time!

We're Great at 'HOGGIN' Good Deeds!

Wednesday 1st October 2025

Written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

8 GoodGymers caught the sunset at a woodland garden in Camden!

This wonderful group – Alison, Deirdre (on their first Camden visit – welcome!), Emilie, Imogen, Lydia, Siobhan, and Steve – visited St Paul's Woodland Garden by Camden Square yesterday.

Just a short hop from where Amy Winehouse once lived this special space is a haven for nature and community.

Catherine – our task host – is part of the brilliant Green City Projects team, and they use this space to support people living with mental health difficulties. It was a joy to be there :)

In the race against the dying daylight, everyone kicked swiftly into good-deeding action last night!

The first task was to move a giant pile of bags filled with something called 'hoggin', which Google tells me is a self-binding mixture of clay, sand, and gravel that creates a firm, attractive, and permeable surface, and which I can confirm is very very very heavy!

Not that was a match for this group's muscles, who moved 30+ sacks to a variety of corners in this woodland space :)

Having completed the shifting and the heaving much quicker than anticipated, everyone moved quickly to emptying the 'hoggin', and it really did create firm, attractive, and permeable surfaces!

Thank you so much, everyone! You did a huge and wonderful amount!
