๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ Central London Good Deeding! ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ

Wednesday 10th December

Written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

6 GoodGymers caught some good deeding vibes amidst Londonโ€™s festive fare!

Settled in the heart of Piccadilly sits St Jamesโ€™s Church.

At this time of year, it is a favourite of tourists and Londoners alike (arriving for carols and services aplenty), and we had to bustle our way through the crowds to arrive on time last night.

Yet we were soon off and away to a peaceful garden, where this special group โ€” of Alex, Charlie, Imogen, Kush (new to GoodGym โ€” a huge welcome!), and Steve โ€” made a wonderful difference.

Huge and bountiful trees border this green space, and theyโ€™ve been shedding their summer coats since October. Our task was to rake the lawns and sweep the paths, clearing the leaves for good for another year.

The brilliant Catherine from Green City Projects was our host, and alongside her we turned a leaf strewn garden into a clear, safe, and tidy spot in just 60 minutes.

Thank you, everyone! Hereโ€™s to next time!

Six Brave the Cold!!!

Wednesday 19th November

Written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

6 GoodGymers braved the chill in Camden last night!

While most Londoners huddled in thick coats one special group were busy with wheelbarrows and shovels and hedge trimmers too.

Assembling at Charlie Ratchford Court alongside the lovely Catherine from Green City Projects, Hannah, Jackie, John, Siobhan, and Steve didn't look cold at all!

No task was too much effort for this crew! Together we:

โœ… Removed a tarpaulin sheet from a soon-to-be-planted flower bed

โœ… Emptied a GIANT sack of sand into endless wheelbarrows for safe depositing

โœ… Emptied another GIANT sack of soil into fresh planters

โœ… Cut tens (maybe hundreds..!) of overhanging branches

โœ… And more!

It is wonderful seeing what 6 pairs of hands can achieve โค๏ธ

Thank you so much, everyone! Here's to next time!

We're Great at 'HOGGIN' Good Deeds!

Wednesday 1st October

Written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

8 GoodGymers caught the sunset at a woodland garden in Camden!

This wonderful group โ€“ Alison, Deirdre (on their first Camden visit โ€“ welcome!), Emilie, Imogen, Lydia, Siobhan, and Steve โ€“ visited St Paul's Woodland Garden by Camden Square yesterday.

Just a short hop from where Amy Winehouse once lived this special space is a haven for nature and community.

Catherine โ€“ our task host โ€“ is part of the brilliant Green City Projects team, and they use this space to support people living with mental health difficulties. It was a joy to be there :)

In the race against the dying daylight, everyone kicked swiftly into good-deeding action last night!

The first task was to move a giant pile of bags filled with something called 'hoggin', which Google tells me is a self-binding mixture of clay, sand, and gravel that creates a firm, attractive, and permeable surface, and which I can confirm is very very very heavy!

Not that was a match for this group's muscles, who moved 30+ sacks to a variety of corners in this woodland space :)

Having completed the shifting and the heaving much quicker than anticipated, everyone moved quickly to emptying the 'hoggin', and it really did create firm, attractive, and permeable surfaces!

Thank you so much, everyone! You did a huge and wonderful amount!
