May Day at The Farm!

Camden Report written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

9 GoodGymers made a real difference at Kentish Town City Farm!

This lovely group โ€” Caitlin, Deirdre, Emily, Giulia, Jacqui, Karen, Lydia, Matt, and Pritika โ€” caught a well-spent and community-filled morning at Kentish Town City Farm on Sunday!

Together they got everything ready for the Farm's annual May Day celebrations!

๐Ÿ’š Karen and Giulia cleaned fences and took them up to the top field!

๐Ÿ’š Emily and Matt carried an animal cage up to the top field and almost got lost!

๐Ÿ’š Deirdre, Lydia, Pritika, and others helped carry tables a long way!

๐Ÿ’š And everyone hung up bunting!... alongside saying hello to the animals ๐Ÿท

Thank you, everyone! And thank you, Emily, for the photos and report!

Camden, Country + Western, and One Very Productive Evening!

Camden Report written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

9 GoodGymers nearly attend a Camden country and western gig!

The Greenwood Centre in Kentish Town is tucked away. The railway line rumbles behind. And the Kentish Town Forum is usually far enough away to be completely unnoticeable.

Usually...

But not on Wednesday evening! When the Forum's queue snaked far and long, so far that it stretched in front of (and beyond!) the Greenwood Centre!

Amidst a mass of stetsons and cowboy boots, this lovely group โ€” of Gary, Giulia, Helen, Lydia, Pritika, Siobhan, Steve, and Thierry โ€” arrived ready to make a lovely difference for this communal green space!

And they did a bucket load!

๐Ÿ’š One (pretty huge) compost bin was emptied, washed, and aired, leaving the fertile mulch ready for use!

๐Ÿ’š One bay tree was delicately trimmed and pruned ready for spring and summer to come!

๐Ÿ’š Countless weeds were cut and scraped, leaving healthy wildflowers free to thrive!

Thank you, everyone! See you next time!

Mission Possible

Lydia Crawford completed their first weekend mission.

Lydia has forgone the usual weekend routine. Instead of lie-ins, roasts and strolls around the park Lydia has dropped everything to run a GoodGym mission for someone who needed help. Respect

Luck of the drawer

Camden Report written by Lydia Crawford

A lovely stroll through West Hampstead with the sun shining soon lef the way to Mr P who had asked for GoodGym's help with organising his kitchen drawers and a bathroom cupboard.

Mr P explained that he is registered blind and as a result it can be a challenge to navigate parts of his house, remembering where things have been placed, keeping them organised and staying on top of expiry dates.

Together, we soon set to work emptying a drawer into one empty bag and then I would describe the item to Mr P to help him identify it and decide whether it was an item he wanted to keep and if so, where it would in the freshly emptied and clean drawer. We had another bag to hand for disposing all unwanted items, rubbish and expired medicines and food.

Some items were a puzzle to us both and I would have to explore my own lexicon to find the appropriate words to describe the item in front of me, whilst guiding Mr P to explore the textures of the item and together we were able to identify them all!

It wasnt long before a rhythm had been established and we cleared through 2 drawers and his bathroom cabinet and filled up an entire bag for disposal. Mr P was incredibly grateful for the support offered by GoodGym today and knew how to request for our help again in the future should his drawers need another sort.

Hedgehogs and North London :)

Camden Report written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

3 GoodGymers enjoy a fabulous sunset while making a difference in Highgate!

Our lovely group โ€” Jackie, Lydia, and I โ€” made our way up and over to the Holly Lodge Estate last night to help spread the word about a very special community project.

Claudia from Growing Green is coordinating a Hedgehog Highway on the estate โ€” small hedgehog-sized holes in fences that allow our prickly friends the freedom to roam โ€” and we were spreading the word among the estate's residents :)

We posted leaflets in multiple doors and all while the light faded into beautiful oranges and reds :)

An evening very well spent! Thank you, both!

Early Summer Good Deeding!

Camden Report written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

9 GoodGymers caught some good deeding on the hottest night of the year!

The sun-seekers were out in full force in Camden on Wednesday evening, and our brilliantly altruistic group joined them with community purpose in mind!

This wonderful lot โ€” Alex, Denzel, Giulia (on their first good deed โ€” welcome!), Jackie, John, Lydia, Mariam, and Thierry โ€” met in Kentish Town to gift time and energy to the residents at Cressfield Close Sheltered Housing!

Together we:

๐Ÿ’š Decanted two large planters ready for fresh blooms this spring!

๐Ÿ’š Took out (roots and all!) enough weeds to fill a wheely bin!

๐Ÿ’š Raked out brambles and nettles leaving a hedgerow with the room to thrive!

๐Ÿ’š Spread โ€˜spent hopsโ€™ to fertilise and enrich the sun-soaked soil!

Thank you, everyone! Hereโ€™s to next time!
