What goes up, must come down

Saturday 21st October 2023

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

Having helped with setting up for Maidenhead Town Show in the morning, the time had to come to take it all down again. The Goodgym team did any amazing job of helping stallholders to transport their goods across the Nicholsons Centre, look after it while their fetched their vehicles, and then help them load up. We transported all sorts of weird and wonderful things, including Geraldine the Giraffe. It all went very smoothly, and before long the Nicholsons Centre was transformed back to its usual self. Anne from the Craft Coop extends her thanks to everyone who helped out. Also well done to Amy, Georgeta and Sheila who were all award-winners in the Arts and Craft show. Go Goodgym!

Installing the Stall-holders

Saturday 21st October 2023

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

It was an early morning start for Diya, Jess, Georgeta, Matthew, Scarlett and Sheila, who turned out to help with the set-up of Maidenhead Town Show. Our task was to help stall-holders who were planned to arrive in certain time-slots, unload their cars/vans in the shortest time possible, move their stuff into the Nicholsons Centre and send them off to park their vehicles, leaving a slot free for the next person. What could possibly go wrong? Actually, it all went pretty smoothly, and we were joined a bit later by extra pairs of hands from Riverside Rotary. Most of the stall-holders were delighted to have help unloading and transporting their stuff, they don't usually get that sort of service! With only a couple of late arrivals, most of the stalls were up and running by the appointed time with minimal disruption to the other traffic trying to use the same narrow roadway. Great job, team!

Fruit & Veg Galore!

Thursday 31st August 2023

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

The Craft Coop has a project to provide realistic-looking fruit, vegetable and other foodstuffs for a permanent window display for the Foodshare shop. Five Goodgymmers rose to the challenge to help out with the project, and started knitting and crocheting with gusto. Very soon, lots of fruit and veg started appearing, with Jess learning to crochet in the process. We now have lots of fruit and vegetables, eggs and even some pasta for the display Well done to everyone who took part, showing some excellent crafting skills. Do pop into the Craft Coop to see some of the other contributions, they should all make an amazing display

Celebrating Maidenhead

Sunday 16th April 2023

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

'Our Maidenhead' is a collaborative project aimed to tie in with National History month, celebrating Maidenhead past and present. The wall-hanging will consist of 49 panels, each depicting a different aspect of life in Maidenhead. One aim was to involve as many people from the community as possible, so Sheila put the call-out to see if any GoodGymmers fancied exercising their creative side and contribute to the mural. As usual, W & M Goodgym did not disappoint! Everyone took on a different topic, inspired by a favourite place, activity or which otherwise had a particular meaning for them. I was blown away by the different approaches and creativity of everyone in the group, using fabric, felt, wool, netting, beads, sequins, buttons, embroidery and quilting to depict their chosen topics. Well done to Amanda, Celine, Georgeta, Hannah, Jess, Nicola, Sheila, Sophie and Tessa for depicting such diverse topics as Braywick Nature Reserve, The Brickworks, Parkrun, Cliveden, Boulters Lock, White Waltham Airfield, Maidenhead Advertiser, Goodgym, St Lukes Xmas Tree Festival, Maidenhead Bridge and Maidenhead Library. Amazing! After the squares have been assembled together with the other contributions, the mural is planned to be displayed in various locations in and around Maidenhead

Get up set up, set up for the show!

Saturday 22nd October 2022

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

Maidenhead Town Show is here! Craft Co-op requested support for helping with the set up for it, and four GGers landed to give a hand. We were needed to help guide the stall setting up including directing the cars in and out, showing the stall holders where they were meant to be, helping out if they needed, and keeping an eye on their stuff as they went off to park.

Diya went off to the top end of the high street to direct incoming cars on where they needed to go. Georgeta got busy helping set up a double gazebo with netting all around (for the dog show). Sheila and Kanika helped direct the stall holders along with lending a hand where needed. Sheila was also spotted carrying out a bunch of weights for the gazebos - she's a heavyweight in GGWM indeed! Georgeta got in on that too having tackled the double G and wanting even more challenges, she helped Sheila carry out a large table for the dog show registration desk.

All done, the four went off their separate ways, on to each of their second GG tasks later in the day. Double deeders indeed!

Street Art

Thursday 6th October 2022

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

Claire, Juli and Sheila met up at the Craft Coop and collected a big bag full of garlands and hearts made by various Knitting and Crochet groups in and around Maidenhead. These had previously been used to decorate the Methodist church at the top of The High Street, but had been taken down to show respect afer the death of The Queen. Our task was to put these up again ahead of the Town Show. The knitted bunting was strung up in the trees (watch out for the prickly rambling rose!), the hearts hung on the large Hebe shrub, and the garlands used to decorate the railings. Several passersby asked us what we were doing and expressed their approval. The town centre looks great!
