24th Coventry Scouts Allotment

Providing the opportunity for our young people to grow

We are a new scout group set up in Woodend, Coventry. In October 2019 we took on a very large allotment to give our young people to opportunity to grow their own food, learn about the environment and sustainability and to support our community with fresh fruit and vegetables.

Unfortunately due to covid we have been unable to meet this spring and the Allotment has become very over grown.

17 GoodGymers have supported 24th Coventry Scouts Allotment with 10 tasks.

Compost happens.

Four Goodgymers went to the Scouts allotment in Coventry to support the continuing development of the allotment, which is used by Scout groups in the local area.

In a repeat of last Saturday morning, our tasks for the day were to wheelbarrow wood chippings to replace one of the paths. We also moved manure to start making the base of the hugelkultur bed and had time to help repair one of the raised beds ready for growing lots of veg this year!

Saturday 15th January 2022

It was a cold and foggy morning, but that didn't curb our enthusiasm for the task in hand. We transported barrows full of wood chips from up the track to create a path around the beds.

Gold!

Tuesday 10th August 2021

It was great to get out for a good run tonight and head over to our good friends at the 24th Coventry Scouts and their allotments.

Following a 4km run there, Laura changed into her London paralympics gamesmaker kit :) and we started weeding and turning over the soil. The scouts have made great progress on their allotments since we first visited and it was great to see the products of their hard work. We found gold in the baby frogs, golden carrots and bags of weeds collected.

We headed back to town covering a further 4km and taking in the gold around us in the fields of wild flowers as we ran.

Plen-tie of wood and ways to help

Saturday 24th April 2021

Written by Liz Pharoah

On a beautiful Saturday morning, 6 Goodgym Coventry members met at the 24th Scouts Allotments.

Our tasks today's weren't cover beds, turn soil and move wood.

Smaller beds were covered by Vic and Graeme after the hoops had been sawn.

The larger bed needed a mesh over the metal construction. Many hands -and cable ties- made light work and Damian, Jackie, Katherine and Liz finished this.

The new potato beds were turned and many logs were relocated.

Another lovely task completed.

Chip chip hooray!

Tuesday 6th April 2021

5 GoodGym runners braved the April blizzards to support the Scouts to get their allotment ready for re-opening in a few weeks.

Our tasks for the evening included filling the new raised beds with compost so that they are ready for planting, moving manure and laying wood chippings on the paths. Shovelling, raking and using the wheelbarrow certainly kept us warm!
