A Scythe to Behold

Saturday 13th June

Written by Dushyant Goel

Tis the season to meander through woods. A gloriously clear day to be out at the top of Nover Hill. We scythe through from the steps to a side lane. The sheep path is now open to go through.

Bagsy the brambles

Tuesday 9th June

Written by Melanie Young (she/her)

Fantastic sunshine greeted 11 GoodGymmers who were relieved it had stopped raining. It was great to meet Alice, visiting us from London Town and Josh joining for his very first GoodGym task having been attracted to the red t-shirt gang at a local event. Rasa and Matty also joined us for a second time and our cemetery gardens specialist Ieva was back, too. Great to see you all!

Brunswick Cemetery was looking glorious in the evening sun and the recent heat and rain have helped everything grow fast - especially the weeds! reclaiming the paths from the greenery was the main plan, catching as many of the weeds before they scatter their seeds and create next year's weeding.

Lots of chatter and plant identification (guesswork), the park was a-buzz with GoodGymmers and insects getting their fix. Bag after bag of green waste was piled up for the Council to collect along with armfuls of bigger/spikier weeds.

It was soon time for the random pointing end-of-task photo as we left the park even more beautiful than weed (see what I did there?) found it.

Back to Workout to sit by the water with a pot of tea and taste-testing the chocolate protein cakes, or chocolate not-do-much protein cakes - great evening everyone.

Snip service

Tuesday 28th April

Written by Bristol runner

A grave day for brambles when GoodGym comes to town. What are we doing today, Brain? The same thing we do every week, Pinky! Armed with our usual plethora of tools we snipped, whacked and nibbled away at the undergrowth at Hebron Burial Ground. There was important cat business to be had and a myriad of topics to discuss. Snail orgy anyone?

and now for something completely different:

If a cat sat in a hat would it like that? If a cow said hi to you now would it say ciao?

Personally I think a cat would but the cow one needs more research. Maybe just Italian cows and ones that are very fancy. Anyway thats enough stream of consciousness writing for today.

Until next time…

Fearsome Four Bamboo Bash

Saturday 6th June

Written by Mark R

Our intrepid team of three GoodGymers plus our host Ian deployed into the depths of Old Sneed Park Nature Reserve in what can only be described as sub-optimal conditions, to do battle with the combined enemies of bamboo and bramble. It was quite a skirmish but Team GoodGym prevailed clearing the opposing forces from the combat zone and taking the ground. No doubt the enemy will creep back and there are other hostiles all around, so we'll need to return another day to try to retain the ground won. Well done and thank you to my brothers in arms!
