Enjoy park run and would like to be involved in my local community
Olivia has completed their first Half Marathon. This badge means they've successfully completed 13.1 miles for the first time.
Every first Saturday of the month, lets check out a different parkrun in London for a chance to meet new people, experience new places and try out new coffee spots!
My proposed schedule is below but let me know if there are any others you would like to try:
6th August - Avery Hill
3rd September - Sutcliffe Park
1st October - Danson Park
5th November - Mountsfield Park
3rd December - Hilly Fields Park
We'll meet at the start line of the event 10-15 minutes before hand to warm up and motivate one another. Then once were all finished we'll snap a sick group photo before scoping out the local hot beverages on offer.
What are Parkruns?
Parkruns are free, weekly, community events all around the world. Saturday morning events are 5k and take place in parks and open spaces. You can run, walk or volunteer at Parkruns. You can even take your dog (if you have one) along! If you have never run a Parkrun before, they are a great way to get into running in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Remember, it's FREE, but you can register to keep a profile (number of Parkruns you do, times, etc.). You can register by going to parkrun.org.uk
Olivia is one of the people that keep the GoodGym community alive and well. By cheering 250 times they've shown they're committed to supporting other runners. They are definitely a fan of what GoodGym is all about.
Olivia has travelled far and wide and reached 10 different GoodGym areas. Nothing will keep Olivia still, they are still hungry for more. Keep moving Olivia.
Goodgym Islington returned to Elizabeth House Food Hub on Hurlock Street for our shopping delivery task of the Summer. The team at Elizabeth House run a really organised operation during the holiday season, offering essential food and supplies for local families and residents in the Islington and Arsenal boroughs. Most of the recipients will visit the hub in person, but we are on hand to assist with deliveries in walking distance.
David, Francesca, Katie, Olivia and Rob all successfully delivered multiple bags of donated items to residents across the borough. Shortly after, the crew asked if we could help with the clearing down process for the day (the hub will return for full operation in 2 weeks), so Frankie, Rob and Simon helped with moving and shifting crates of food and vegetables back into storage, and giving the main hall a good clean (ready for youth club and community yoga running throughout the rest of the week). As a reward, we were gifted loads of delicious yellow cherry tomatoes and plenty of strawberries and blackberries for the road!
We will be back again on Tuesday 16th August.
