Mon 24 Jan 18:00 pm
St Faith's Community Centre, Red Post Hill, London, SE24 9JQ
for rough sleepers

Get Rid Of And Donate (GROAD) do amazing work making use of unused STUFF, donated to them by the public. We've previously helped them pack Christmas presents and toys for local kids and helped sort and relocate their stock.

Now Andrea has asked if we can give them a hand packing bags of essentials (blankets, clothes and toiletries etc.) for rough sleepers which will then be distributed to those who need them.

The task is at St Faith's Church Hall, near North Dulwich station, come and get involved !!

Please bring a mask as the task will be inside 🀿

Santa's Sort-y List

Sat 11 Dec
β€’
Report written by Mark Gilyead

Today's task was to help out Living Well and their food bank with checking and packing "Christmas Bags" - a more festive version of their regular packages they give to those that need them.

Members of the public were asked to provide specific things (salmon, shower gel, coffee, festive biscuits, tinned fruit...etc.) and we were there to check that everything was there.

Firstly we shifted all the bags into the church, before getting on with going through each bag and matching them with the list of food. If there was something missing, we'd grab it from the usual food bank stock, and then we'd top the bags up with mince pies and other Christmas treats!

Once they were all filled, we moved the bags back into the containers outside. A good test of brain power, speed and muscle! πŸ§ πŸƒπŸ’ͺ

Mary from Living Well sent me this after the session:

"A big thank you to everyone who helped today with Christmas bags. If we had to do them without your help it would have taken many hours."

Great work guys! And big shout out to Carla who came along for her first GG task - A baptism of fire with a speedy session! πŸŽ‰πŸ”₯

Santa Claus is coming to town!

Mon 13 Dec 17:30 pm
109 Elmers End Road, London, BR3 4SY
Collect donations for local charities

Santa Claus is coming to town! πŸŽ…πŸ»

πŸ•˜ Please note this is a 3-hour Community Mission πŸ•˜

Santa needs you! As he takes his sleigh on a residential route (not on the rooftops, thank goodness!) around Penge and Beckenham. And he needs some elves to help him out - shaking buckets and collecting donations for several local charities including The Maypole Project who provide support to children with complex and life threatening illnesses and local hospice, St Christopher's.

We meet on the corner of Birkbeck Road and Elmers End Road at 5:30pm and should be all wrapped up (pun intended🎁) by 8:30pm. Dress warm - maybe stick your GoodGym t-shirt on the outside if you can!? It is a festive colour after all... 😏 Other festive decorations greatly encouraged!

Any questions? Send Mark an email!

Leaf It Out For Us

Mon 22 Nov
β€’
Report written by Mark Gilyead

The weather has definitely taken a turn for the cold πŸ₯Ά so we started our run talking about our favourite way to get warm. We had responses from press-ups to hot baths! Only one of those would work on a GoodGym group run. πŸ˜‰

Thankfully we managed to keep pretty warm, as we ran up through the park, past some disturbing Lightopia creatures and did our task at Upper Norwood Library Hub.

Painting the fence...

Our equipment was left out for us (hence the pun - thanks Ian!), although we were a little limited with a small pot of paint, and some brushes which were too big to fit in! Luckily we managed to make it work and we got through the paint, although we'll definitely need another trip in future to finish off!

Bagging the leaves...

Daniel from the Library had also left out some bags in case we had time to collect some leaves - and we did - 5 bagsful I believe!

We wrapped up with a little wall-sit (and one emphasising great technique... see pics) and ran back down the hill!

  • Nice one guys! * Great running from all but especially Katy who'd jogged up from Lambeth and Ian who'd already been for a run earlier! And thanks Kat for the armbands!!

Sorting clothes @ St Christophers Hospice's CP shop

Mon 29 Nov 19:00 pm
Bridge House, 2 High St, London, SE20 8RZ
Organising so more items are sold

We're off to the Triangle, to sort stock at one of St Christopher's Hospice's charity shops. Always a varied activity - we'll be sifting through and working out which pile we need to stick the clothes in and we might be putting items on the rails.

It's about a 2km run each way (and a nice uphill on the way there!)

RUNNING WITH US

We welcome runners of all abilities and we always have a back-marker so no one gets left behind. We usually run at a relaxed pace and tasks are never more than 4km from the pub.

We run at 7pm but turn up any time from 6:45pm. Unfortunately we can't leave our gear at the pub so please come ready to run.

Any questions? Drop me an email!

Living Well is a fab organisation in Penge who provide a foodbank to locals. They've asked for a hand sorting out donations into 'Christmas Bags' which will last over the Christmas period.

We'll meet at Living Well at 1pm and the task may be outside so probably wear gloves and warmer clothes! We should be done within an hour.

A great opportunity to spread some Christmas cheer!

6 people would be great!!

Email me if you have any questions.

See you there!

Help protect the fence from damage

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈWelcome to GoodGym Bromley!πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

We’re a super friendly group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. Every Wednesday we meet to get active and do a physical task to help charities or community organisations across Penge.

WHERE WE MEET

We meet outside the Bridge House pub in Penge. You can lock your bike up in their beer garden but there’s currently nowhere to leave bags so please come ready to run.

THE TASK

We're running back to the Upper Norwood Library Hub. We spent a couple of weeks clearing back foliage around the fences, and then had one session painting half of it, so now we just need to finish it! Maybe don't wear your best gear? And head torch might be useful! πŸ‘ŒπŸ”¦

It's a few k run up to the Library.

Help spread the word about their shops and the need for more volunteers

We meet outside the Bridge House pub in Penge. You can lock your bike up in their beer garden but there’s currently nowhere to leave bags so please come ready to run.

THE TASK

The British Heart Foundation has asked us for help delivering some flyers as they're low on volunteers and would love to get some more locals involved with running their charity shops.

We'll have about 500 flyers to deliver through people's doors around Penge (and potentially Beckenham too!)

A head torch may be useful, and maybe some hand sanitiser?!
