Steam-work!

Tue 10 May
Report written by Mark Gilyead

Tonight's run was to meet Teresa at the St Christopher's Hospice shop on Crystal Palace triangle.

We met at the Bridge House, named our favourite type of dog (there was a picture of a corgi in the window...) and set off up through the park.

We were joined by Hannah and Holly for a selection of different tasks:

✅ Maxim smashed through the hoovering (see pic mid-lunge)

✅ Hannah, Steve and Kate were sorting bags of clothes out the back

✅ Holly was on steaming duty

✅ Nick and I were dusting and cleaning the shelves

We found some excellent items including a slightly oversized green jacket, the cutest little dress you ever did see and an owl shaped backpack.

What a hoot!

After a solid half hour's work, we bid farewell to Teresa and hit the road.

We did a nippy circuits session at Stone Penge in the park featuring some step-ups, tricep dips and press-ups before passing the set of THE GAMES in the National Sports Centre.

When we got back to base, Holly and Kate were impressively continuing their runs 💥 while the rest of us did a wee stretch.

Nice one gang! 🔥

Springtime at the Farm

Sat 30 Apr
Report written by Laura Grant

On a beautiful sunny afternoon at the farm, 6 GoodGymmers got to work packaging manure and preparing the compost for the tomatoes. We also cleared out the overgrown plants from the Turkey pen and fed them to the pigs and piglets who were very grateful. As usual, we finished the session with a tour of the farm and met all the new arrivals !

  • Please remember to bring your own gloves and wear facemasks at this task
  • Adhere to the Farm's COVID measures at all times
  • This is a popular and in-demand task, so please sign up and turn up on the day if you can commit. Otherwise, please give the space to someone else.

As always, the last hour half is spent cuddling goats, sheep and all the other Farm animals! Hope you can join us and say hello to the pigs, goats and sheep again!

Feeling Thorny?

Tue 26 Apr
Report written by Mark Gilyead

OH BEE-HAVE!

Tonight's run took us to the lovely meadow at St John's Church for some heliotrope weeding and bramble trimming. We met in the Bridge House as usual, discussed what we'd name our pubs if we owned one (Steve even had his prepared! Some other solid choices: The Barracuda, The Tall Bear, The Starfish...), and then we had a speedy warm up in the park before heading off to the church.

BEE BRAVE

We met Helen who had two tasks prepared for us:

Team 1 (Kat, Ian, Hannah and Cat) were in the bee area with their legs covered in preparation for some prickly customers - a hell of a lot of brambles, stinging nettles (and a couple of blue bells!). The plan was to blitz an area of it, stuffing the plant cuttings into a big bag.

Team 2 (Nick, Maxim and Steve) were in an area which was to be transformed into a wildflower meadow, but first a load of heliotrope (helio is sun in Greek don'tcha know!) weeds needed uprooting and sticking on the compost.

Armed with secateurs, forks, trowels and shears both teams got to work and both areas were looking much clearer by the time we'd (weed) finished.

Ace work gang!

We had a quick game of Rock, Paper, Scissors (with sprints and planks) before jogging back to base.

Group Run // Gardening Jobs @ St John's Meadow

Tue 26 Apr 19:00 pm
Bridge House, 2 High St, London, SE20 8RZ
Supporting a local church's wildlife area

This week we're heading to St John's The Evangelist in Upper Norwood, a 2km jog away.

We'll be helping with a couple of jobs in their 'meadow' area:

✂️ cutting back brambles in the bee area (long trousers/leggings are a good idea for this!)

🌸 clearing some of the heliotrope (it's a type of plant apparently!)

We'll throw in some fitness drills on the way back. If you could bring gardening gloves that'd be great.

Off with their heads!

Sat 23 Apr
Report written by Hannah

A sunny morning in Alexandra Rec enjoyed by hardcore Mark, Alison and Carla, who had all just come straight from the 5k Crystal Palace Parkrun, and Hannah, who had taken the less impressive train option. Tasks included deadheading/decapitating the daffodils, watering the new and newish saplings, and then mega-weeding the rosebed, via intense debate on the merits of dog-borrowing, being nose-close to nature, and naming all the Tube stations in Zone 1 (try it!). We also heard about some fun highlights coming up in the park in the next few months, including a Pride in the Park picnic and a music event. Thanks everyone!
