A few good gym members came together online to do some yoga. looking to find that edge between effort and relaxation.

“To work a hard edge, press a little higher, drop a little lower, stay in the pose just a little bit longer.” To work a soft edge, “go to the hard edge, then back off a little and see what that feels like.”

Tuesday on line yoga session at 10am Join from 9.55am You can log on a few minutes before for a chat or ask some questions This is a simple beginners / intermediate online yoga session designed to both strengthen, stretch and relax the body. It will be an hour + long session, using some simple yoga poses both static and dynamic, and the focus will be on mindful breath and movement. Please wear loose clothes, you need a yoga mat (or similar) and may be a thin blanket for relaxation. Please let me know if you have any questions or if its your first time. I will email a link out on the day or on the Yoga whatsApp group. ( let me know if you what to go on the Whats App group.)

A lovely evening for a run! Just a shame we weren't there half an hour earlier...

Nevermind! Tonight we had a killer team of me, Stephen, Hannah, Nick and brand new to GoodGym, Holly 👏👏🥳 So great to have you along.

Tonight's task was to Melvin Hall, a great spot in Penge which is run by volunteers and provides loads of services and clubs etc to locals. Last time we went there our painting session was somewhat unsuccessful, with some particularly absorbant paint... But this time was different!


After a quick warm up in the park and a 2.5k run there, we met John who sorted us out with some better paint (quality Dulux Primer 👌) and showed us the gate to paint. We got cracking, with Hannah and Nick smashing through their side, while Holly, Stephen and I had more complex nooks and crannies to cover.

In 30 minutes we were done. A few of us downed some fruity water John had provided and we headed back to the Bridge House with a quick game of Rock, Paper, Scissors in the park on the way (lose = sprint, win (not really a win...) = wall sit).

🏃‍♀️Welcome to GoodGym Bromley!🏃‍♂️

We’re a super friendly group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. Every Wednesday we meet to get active and do a physical task to help charities or community organisations across Penge.

WHERE WE MEET

We meet outside the Bridge House pub in Penge. You can lock your bike up in their beer garden but there’s currently nowhere to leave bags so please come ready to run.

THE TASK

This week we're heading back to Melvin Hall to add a fresh coat of paint to the gate. We went there a couple of weeks ago and left the gate looking a little unloved so we're heading back to fix that!

Please don't wear your snazziest gear!

And just in case it rains... please bring a mask as there's work to do inside at Melvin Hall if we can't paint.

RUNNING WITH US

We welcome runners of all abilities and we always have a back-marker so no one gets left behind. We usually run at a relaxed pace and tasks are never more than 4km from the pub.

Ivy League

We had a little change of plan for our task last night. Unfortunately the fences we were meant to be painting were covered in ivy, so we had a job pulling it all off!

We were headed to the Upper Norwood Library Hub, and like the name suggests, it's up a hill, but our team snaked up through the park with ease. We were there to meet Rin who we eventually found.

Armed with shears, gloves and secateurs, we cracked on, edging our way along the fence and filling up 5 bags with our trimmings.

Back To Front

On the way back, we had an antisocial game of back-to-front, creating a line and sprinting to the front from the back. And then Hannah showed us (including my first!) Geo-cache! We took a snap with the contents and then ran down the hill for a stretch to finish.

Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.
