Our intrepid team of three GoodGymers plus our host Ian deployed into the depths of Old Sneed Park Nature Reserve in what can only be described as sub-optimal conditions, to do battle with the combined enemies of bamboo and bramble. It was quite a skirmish but Team GoodGym prevailed clearing the opposing forces from the combat zone and taking the ground. No doubt the enemy will creep back and there are other hostiles all around, so we'll need to return another day to try to retain the ground won. Well done and thank you to my brothers in arms!

Bamboo is invasive and rampant! Containing its spread will ensure it doesn't out-compete native plants on this beautiful nature reserve.

On top of the usual maintenance tasks at the berry maze, we managed to dig out an old fence post that had snapped at the base, and postcrete a new post in. everyone chipped in as we took turns with a challenging dig. Great work everybody! thank you and see you again for the next session

A morning spent snipping off and unearthing bramble risings from the meadow space on the edge of the orchard. A few wildflowers starting to emerge now and plenty of hawthorn blossom surrounding us.
A pleasant morning enjoying the sunshine before the rain predicted later
Fact of the day - briar is used in the maufacturing of tobacco pipes.

Raking news just coming in….
Three goodgymers met this morning to transform a patch of ground into a haven for wildflowers and diversity. Let’s go over to our roving reporter Richard for more.
Richard: Thanks Gary. It’s a warm one.
Thanks Richard. Informative as always. After the patch was cleared using scythes and rakes it was then scarified 👻. Finally the seeds were spread and watered. Hopefully in the next year the area will transform into a sea of colour and life.
Until next time…
