Four GoodGymers joined the regular Bethnal Green foodbank volunteers to help out on a blustery tube strike Tuesday in east London. The session runs every week so reach out to Aine for Tuesdays or Simon for Wednesdays if you’d ever like to join!

Aine arrived first and helped unpack a massive delivery of essentials from Tower Hamlets foodbank. The containers all had to be returned on the spot so it was a scattergun approach of emptying everything as quick as we could and was quite the workout. Us regularly volunteers kept feeling the need to repeat “it’s not always like this!!”

Ceiling ,John and Kelliearrived just after Aine nipped off for a conference call and got stuck straight into counting out all the donations so they could be logged properly before setting out the tables and laying out leftover bags from last weeks session.

John said a quick goodbye and cycled back to the office while Kellie and Ceiling took over kids corner and packed nearly 100 bags between them of essential extras giving to families.

In the meantime Aine was packing veg and fish bags with the regular volunteers and pushing the greggs cookies on anyone who was listening.

Ceiling braved the bad weather to cycle home while Aine and Kellie stayed for another few hours to continue bag packing and unpacking a few more deliveries and donations. Special call out to Kellie for a mammoth tea sorting (as “fun” as it sounds) session where she set up up for packing for at least a few weeks.
