5 runners (although I think driving through rush hour traffic or attending by bike doesn’t count as running) went for our monthly visit to Hartrig Oakes. Like last month we were blessed with lovely weather and so the ever helpful and organised Tracey had our 6 youthful residents decked out in their best chairs ready to be wheeled around the grounds. For those not in the know, Hartrig Oakes provides residential care as well as sheltered housing and the grounds are kept in pristine condition and the 5 of us, Tracey and the indomitable 6 enjoyed a lovely push round the estate.

Knowing how competitive Mitch is he was forced to bring up the rear and maybe his long run on Sunday took it out of him as that is pretty much where he stayed. Whilst out and about we were given a lesson on flowers but it would be no surprise to anyone that the knowledge shown by the residents on flower versus weed far outstripped the knowledge of the goodgymers!

However, we can at least talk and drive and all the residents remained in their chairs throughout and were thoroughly appreciative of the opportunity to get outside. Once safely back inside we gathered around a big table giving us the chance to chat for a while over a cuppa before enough was enough.

If you have not been there before keep a look out for the next one next month. If the weather is not so good then it’s indoor games, but whichever option it is you will enjoy it.

Great to get the youthful residents outside. Exploring their gardens with them, admiring life, celebrate ageing. Highlight of my day, doing meaningful things, making the lonely a little less lonely, learning, noticing, listening, finding out about myself in the process, engaging in life makes us grow, and live life to the full in each moment:-) Have a great month everyone. Looking forward to next time:-)
