Rushing from home to Old Spike as tonight we weren't heading back to Old Spike after our task at Salvation Army Camberwell as we had been kindly invited by Lindy to her place for a housewarming/social. Yet, when Sam arrived on time, no one had come just yet. However, loads of GoodGymers were going to meet at the task, so Sam just waited on Benjamin, Daryl and Nathan (who just arrived on time) before proceeding with his GG speech and a warm-up (for the first time since Spring) in the alleyway.

Tonight, Sam's ice-breaker question, which was to do with the fact that it was World Mental Health Day on Monday, was: What practical tips do you do to have a positive mental wellbeing or what would you like to do?

From screaming in a pillow/in water to singing the the shower or dancing spontaneously, we had a mix range. Yet, the common theme was doing things you love and taking time for yourself (mostly alone, but there were some that require talking to people). Remember, it's okay not to be okay. Having emotions makes you human, not weak.

Dips and chips

Over the hill (and far away), we went as we ran a 2.75k run that took us from Old Spike through the backstreets of Peckham to reach Camberwell. It was like a "lads running club" as we met the rest: Abie, Emma, Lindy and Paulin who were already there getting stuck into some Starburst sweets.

Many of us knew the task as we had been to Salvation Army Camberwell, at least, three other times this year. The task was to take all the baby and children's toys out of the cupboard to clean/disinfect them before letting them dry and putting them back in the cupboard. Simple....or was it?

With RnB classics on Sam's playlist, we had an efficient system as almost halfway through the session, Emma joined us. We blitz through the task, although it did take us up until the hour. The hard part was at the end, when we had to put everything back in the cupboard, but somehow it wasn't all fitting in. Yet, once we twist and turned a few toys, we could put in the last two/three boxes of toys.

Our night did not end there as we had an extra social this month as Lindy led the way to hers via Tescos. It was a GoodGym housewarming with dips, chips (crisps) and veggies to go hand in hand with various alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The majority stayed until 22:00, others (the hardcore people) found themselves leaving at 02:00...

Thank You to all the GG-ers

A personal thanks from me to all those who came out tonight! As Catherine mentioned, although it might seem like a mundane task, it is very much appreciated and great for the kids health. A personal thanks to Lindy for allowing us to come to her place for the social afterwards and hope the clean up wasn't too bad.

Thank You Catherine

GoodGym is all about getting fit and doing good! We praise the runners/cyclists/walkers who come to get fit and help out, but we often forget about our task owner. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Catherine for giving us an indoor task and for providing these service to all the local families in need as we go through this economic crisis.
