Parkland Party (October Long Run on Capital Ring Stages 12 & 13)
10 GoodGymers made their way 19km on a training session in Tower Hamlets.
- Sunday, 21st of October 2018
- Led by Simon Fitzmaurice
On a sunny autumnal Sunday, 10 GoodGym runners ran between 10-19km from East Finchley to Hackney Wick.
An enthusiastic group of Goodgymmers from all different areas (including some early risers from deepest South London) came together for a lovely run along one of the most popular sections of the** Capital Ring**, part of a 78 mile looped walk around the outskirts of London. Some of our runners were recovering from running adventures at Yorkshire Marathon last week, whilst others were keen to attempt their longest ever run whilst exploring a new part of their city.
We started at Dan & DeCarlo cafe (great coffee shop just metres away from GG Barnet HQ) and followed the finger posts to Cherry Tree Wood and Highgate Woods. From Highgate station, we continued along the Parkland Walk, a former railway line stretching through North London, and into** Finsbury Park,** where we met up with Nurjehan by Manor House station. Our route took us by the Woodberry Wetlands and edge of Clissold Park (we picked up Bryon at the Castle Climbing Centre, part way through a long training run) and through Abney Cemetery, the location of one of our favourite GG Hackney tasks.
After a short stop at the Springfield Park Cafe in Upper Clapton, we linked onto the River Lee Navigation for our final stages of our long run. We passed the Middlesex Filter Beds, the Wick Woodlands and the Old Ford Lock before crossing over to Hackney Wick for some excellent coffee and breakfast at Stour Space cafe and gallery space.
Thanks for joining us for a lovely run on a beautiful route! Let's do some more Capital Ring running soon.
