On the hedge of glory

2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Cardiff.

In stark contrast to last night's monsoon weather, Ben and I ran 1.5 miles to this mission in glorious sunshine. We had been told that Mrs L needed some assistance with her front hedge so that her garden would look nicer from the roadside and help her to feel better about her home.

On arriving at Mrs L's home, we introduced ourselves and met the resident foreman for the task - Mr O the black and white cat. Throughout the task, he followed us along the hedge relaxing in the sun and just taking in the good work we were doing and uttering the odd 'meow'.

Getting stuck in..

We were given shears and secateurs to arm ourselves with and we got stuck in to taming the hedge. As we cut away, the garden wall once again became visible as well as the street name sign (which we have changed to say 'GoodGym Street' in the pictures to avoid giving away Mrs L's address and also because maybe there should be a street named after GoodGym?).

After twenty minutes or so Mrs L came out to take a look how we were getting on and was flabbergasted by the transformation already. We continued trimming and chopping for another 15 minutes all the way along the garden wall, closely followed by Mr O. In a moment of kindness and like a scene taken from Animal Rescue, I removed a grasshopper from a piece of trimming and set him free before bagging it up. Freedom!!Then the big clear up began. We filled the green bin along with four green sacks full of hedge trimmings, had a good sweep up and put away the tools for Mrs L. Job done!!

The return leg..

We bid Mrs L and Mr O the cat a fond farewell and with a wave goodbye set off on our run home. During our run home, Ben found a modelling opportunity (yes, I know Cardiff GoodGymmers, this does not sound like the shy and retiring trainer we are used to :) ) up against the backdrop of some modern street art and I became his photographer. It looked like so much fun and not to be outdone, I got involved too with a jump in front of the artwork.
