After a morning and afternoon of GoodGyming, Matthew and Pauline set off for their fourth mission of the day.

Ms S had been left in the dark and had called on GoodGym for the first time. A fiercely independent and very capable lady, she was not one to ask for help, usually waiting for her son to visit to tackle any jobs.

However, after joining Liverpool Cares, and hearing about GoodGym, she decided to give us a try...and she wasn’t disappointed. Before the task we had a lovely chat and found out a bit more about each other. As an older lady, living on her own, Ms S explained that it was a huge thing, to allow someone into your home, to trust them. This is why we feel so privileged and humbled to be welcomed into the lives of so many isolated and vulnerable people.

Ms S explained that she had a heart condition and mobility issues with her shoulder, which made it difficult for her to tackle certain jobs - such as reaching up to change a light bulb...and the fact that she is only 5’3”.

Mat tackled the high light on the landing and Pauline replaced a bulb in the wall light. In next to no time, the lights were shining as brightly as the smile on Ms S’s face and it was time to go, but not before she told us that she would be looking for other tasks for us to do. She was also going to spread the word about GoodGym with her heart health group...so look out Liverpool GoodGym, there may be a few more missions heading your way.

Liverpool Cares

Our big cities are amazing. But they can also leave people feeling anonymous, isolated and lonely. That's why The Cares Family brings older and younger neighbours together, to share time, laughter and new experiences – helping everyone to feel part of our changing world, rather than left behind by it.
