This evening 11 GoodGym runners met up for an extra group run to help set up the Disability Sport Wales Insport event. We ran to help set up the Disability Sport Wales Insport event last year too, click here to read the run report from last year.

It was great to see so many regular faces show up and Emma who hasn't run with us for a little while, WELCOME BACK :). The warm up involved running to the end of the wreck. Thinking that everyone would outsmart Ben they ran to the nearest end, Ben congratulated their attempt at outsmarting him, but then specified the other end.

Feeling warmed up, it was time to make our run to the task. The run took everyone along the wreck, over the monkey bars and alongside Roath park lake. After catching our breath and waiting for everyone to regroup, we continued by running up Cefn-Coed road, using the lamp posts to do intervals; sprinting between two, walking to the next one and then sprinting the next two, repeating until we made it to the top of the hill. I'm pleased to say... we all made it - Good going guys!

After reaching the top of the hill we ran approximately 100 metres and then took a right turn and entered into Cyncoed University Campus.

The place you want is NIAC!

We went into the reception area and explained to the reception staff that we were from GoodGym and we were here to help set up the Insport Series Event. She said to us "the place you want is NIAC (The National Indoor Athletics Centre)" and pointed us in the direction we needed to go. After taking a few turns, navigating narrow passages and corridors we saw our friends from Sports Disability Wales, Par-athlete James Ledger and Michelle Daltry, who both greeted us with big smiles.

Before getting stuck into the task Michelle explained about the Insport Series Event;

The insport series is a key event in the calendars of both Sport Cardiff and Disability Sport Wales. Providing the opportunity the opportunity for individuals with disabilities to try over 20 different sports including trampolining, wheelchair basketball, table tennis, athletics, and many more.

Michelle then told us our task which was to move everything in the gymnasium into NIAC and so we dived straight into the task! Here's what we moved...

  • Approximately 20 wheelchairs
  • 15 bikes
  • Hundreds of empty gym bags
  • 3 x Table tennis tables
  • A trampoline
  • Soft play steps

and more!

Martin, Amy, Lowri, Sue and Welsh Dave thought that the best way of transporting the bikes would be to ride them! Check out the epic photos of them riding the bikes above

In record time the task was complete!

About 20 minutes later the task was done.

That's not all folks!

The second part of the run was extra special! Welsh Paralympic Athletes Steve Morris facilitated a warm up & fitness session and James Ledger then facilitated a warm down. They both did an awesome job of getting us warmed up, training us and then chilling us out afterwards!

You can find out more about James and Steve here:

James ledger, a visually impaired athlete - T12 Sprinter & Long Jumper

And Stephen Morris, A Paralympian 1500 finalist and T20 British Record holder for 800m, 1,500m and 5000m.

If you would like to join in or watch the Insport Series Event then it will be taking place at Cyncoed Campus, Cardiff on Friday 7th September and Saturday 8th September. If you are able to help volunteer then they are also looking for volunteers too :)

We had so much fun! Thank you Michelle, James, Steve and the whole Sports Disability Wales team.
