12 action ready GoodGymers ran 6k to Tower Hamlets Cemetery to shift 25 Christmas trees and clear a whole load of naughty Ivy.

Some poorly timed London rain and the joys of a Tube strike meant only the toughest GoodGymers made it out!

A huge welcome for Sarah and Will for joining the GoodGym fold for their first run and a colossal round of applause πŸ‘πŸ½ πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΌ to Alison on her 5th GoodGym birthday!! πŸŽˆπŸŽ‰πŸŽŠ

We set off for a little pulse raiser through the Bethnal Green back streets before we shook off some of that New Years rust and got nice and loose with a range of muscle activating and joint mobilising exercises before we upped the tempo to finish off the 3k route to Tower Hamlets Cemetery.

With a well drawn map from Dan one of the cemetery managers we grabbed some gardening gloves and started to haul the pile of Christmas trees from one side of the cemetery to the other about 600 metres of very spooky, slightly muddy terrain! Two trips each and a decent pace with a wide variety of techniques got the first job done! The Christmas trees will now form part of the Dead Hedge that weaves its way around the park.

We next ran over to an Ivy encased area of the cemetery with vines as thick as ropes gripping trees and head stones being taken over it was our duty to free them from the Ivy! We split up into 2 teams and attacked! Removing clump after clump of Ivy we piled up a monstrous mound in 15 minutes of Speedy action!

With Bryon marking the spot in the sand we carried the massive mound over to it where the park keepers will come and remove it in the morning.

A top effort deserved a more scenic route back to base, also doubling up as giving Alex a bit of a Mile End Parkrun reccy for his pacing efforts next month! Adding in a second lap of the Mile End Mountain for good measure and some route guidance from Rhio on the way back we made it base.

A quick stretch out and big round of applause finished off a top GoodGym evening!

Next week we are off to Hollybush for some flower planting action, love to have you along please sign up here [https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/planting-away-in-hollybush].

Have a great week

Smooth Shifting

Joel
