As many of you know (and for those of you who don’t), Emily T has been getting involved with GoodGym York and Newcastle over the last year or so as part of her broader doctoral project which explores combined movement and volunteering activities (specifically GoodGym, Cycling Without Age, and Move Mates) as “opportunities” for health and citizenship.

She would like to invite you all to this interactive workshop-style “knowledge exchange” event where she will offer some preliminary reflections on the programmes and offer you the chance to share your own experiences and observations.

This is a good opportunity to have your say…

  • Is GoodGym about health? And if so, how?
  • Is it more about getting fit or doing good – or both?
  • Has it changed your experiences of running and/ or volunteering?
  • And does GoodGym make you…good!?

As well as the discussion, Emily will also be putting together a photo exhibition for the event and for this needs your help!

Your GoodGym memories…

  • Choose up to five of your favourite photos that you feel reflect your GoodGym journey/experience.
  • Do this via the GoodGym website (the easiest way to do this is to visit the “Run reports” tab and then click on “Mine”, and this will bring up all the activities you have taken part in)
  • Download 5 of these photos and send them to Emily via email with a description of the photo and why you chose it (emilytupper@hotmail.co.uk)
  • Emily will then print them off and curate them into an exhibition on the day
  • You may be invited for a follow up interview using the photos as prompts to talk about your experiences.

There will be other activities throughout the afternoon to get involved with and a free buffet lunch will be provided.

Everyone is invited to the event, whether or not you signed up to Emily's project initially. She will be using this event as part of her research so if you do come she will ask that you fill out a consent form saying that you agree to be part of the project. They will be available to fill out on the day.

As well as clicking attending on this event it would be great if you could also RSVP to Emily directly (emilytupper@hotmail.co.uk) saying that you are coming (to make sure there is enough food and resources!).

Newcastle gang: Emily has a budget for travel so please don’t let cost put you off attending! Its an hour on the train from Newcastle.

This is also a chance to hear about the other programmes Emily is involved with (Cycling Without Age and Move Mates) and reflect on any possibilities of partnerships and collaboration.

Hope you can make it!
