Who this task will support
Galleywall Nature Reserve
The Galleywall Nature Reserve is a small plot of land which has been owned by Southwark Housing for decades. It was used by the adjacent Galleywall School for some time before the school closed. It has been maintained by a group of volunteers, the Friends of Galleywall Nature Reserve, since 2004, under an ongoing long-term agreement with the council.

It's Wednesday night and we're doing it right...it's also our group run night!

In this group run, we will be running from Old Spike Roastery to Galleywall Nature Reserve to assist Eddie (task owner), who have called upon us for various tasks like fixing the fence and painting the shed plus small jobs to get the nature reserve tidy. What else we could be doing?

  • Planting bulbs
  • Bagging up leaves (for leaf mulch)
  • Clearing the pond
  • Pruning trees and bushes
  • Turning the compost
  • Weeding
  • Litter picking any rubbish
  • General tidying up

It's the first Wednesday of the month, which means it's our social night. This month, we're heading to Skylarking near Peckham Rye station or another establishment, the taskforce chooses.

New to GoodGym Southwark?

Not to worry, it can be daunting coming to your first group run, but we are so welcoming whether you're just starting out as a runner or have been running for years. We welcome all!

Here's the important information - the "Where, When and What":

๐Ÿ“ We meet at Old Spike Peckham between 18:30-18:45. You can also meet us at the task: Galleywall Nature Reserve near South Bermondsey Station at 19:15.

โŒš 18:30 (leaving at 18:40 latest). If meeting at task, be there for 19:15. We will be back in Peckham by 20:30 (latest).

โœ… There will be access to Old Spike Peckham, so you can drop your bags and use their toilets before we head out.

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ After a quick warm-up, we run together as a group. If there are loads of us, there will be a back marker to ensure no one is left behind. On this run, it's a long one as we will be running almost 4k each way. Running at a medium pace to get to the task in 25 minutes. We will spend 40-45 minutes doing the tasks mentioned above (or as much as we can) before running back to finish by 20:30.

Advisable: Please bring gardening gloves ๐Ÿงค for the task.

Options are available to run between 4km and 8km in total

Remember that we run to and from the task, so you'll only be running for half this distance in one go.

This is a standard GoodGym group run. If you can't run for more than 15mins without stopping or you're worried about any aspect of the session, contact us.
