During the current lockdown, Team #GoodgymRedThunder will be hosting a weekly Adventure Film Watch Party- an opportunity to watch these great free-to-air documentaries together! During these uncertain times, sometimes we need a bit of inspiration to get us out the door and finding our own adventures!

The Corris Round - A lockdown inspired Ultra Run in Southern Snowdonia

Initially during the first lockdown, twelve year old Tom was content with local walks, some climbing and watching videos on YouTube. As the days he passed and it was clear that lockdown was not going to end quickly he decided he needed a project - his own version of The Bob Graham Round that he could do from his front door.

He got out maps and guidebooks, roped his Dad into exploring with him and together they came up with the Corris Round - his very own, Nicky Spinks inspired, Ultra Run from his front door.

Coming Home: Ag Teacht Abhaile

Spring 2019 proved to be open season for the Wicklow Round, with three record attempts. First was up Wexford man Paddy O’Leary, running the route to try and break the previous record set by renowned American runner Joe “Stringbean” McConaughy. Yet, within just over a month, the time had been tested again not once, but twice by Irish athletes Shane Lynch and current record holder Gavin Byrne.

The Wicklow Round is a ultra running challenge that traverses 26 mountains in Wicklow, including the highest mountain in Ireland outside of Kerry, Lugnaquilla. It starts just a stone’s throw from Dublin at the base of Kippure, loops through the mountains and returns to Kippure with over 100 kilometers of running and 4000 metres of climbing.
