11 GG Yorkies completed a challenge to build a raised bed at Gale Farm Court.

It was a site we had spent two sessions on, clearing old bushes, digging them up by their enormous roots and creating a space for a raised bed to enable residents to have an accessible place to grow their veggies.

We arrived to four tonne sacks of soil and a lot of sleepers. Firstly, the sleepers needed to be cut to size.

Measuring is quite a complex task for GoodGym

Measuring was one thing, but cutting straight lines into sleepers with handsaws was quite another. We persisted though with some of us managing straighter cuts than others.

I like the 'wave' in yours! - Michal

The soil was coming through from the front car park thick and fast, with Leanne leading the charge to drag the bags as soon as they were light enough. We were filling the raised bed with as much soil as possible before each new layer of sleepers was added.

We shifted the sleepers around a lot, trying to get them to line up and sit flush, trying them every way round and sawing off extra centimetres before popping massive bolts in to secure them together.

That was actually very satisfying - Mitch

The remaining soil was used to top up another flower bed on the site and we finished sweeping up whilst the residents came out to have a look at their new raised bed.

It's fantastic, just the right height. A million times better than before! June
