Report written by Barnet runner
14 fabulous GGers ran 5.5k to Muswell Hill soup kitchen and a hill training session in the rain.
Meeting at the Phoenix we were met with two bits of bad news: our flyers from the Syrian Kitchen were not delivered AND the Phoenix had themselves run out of flyers. So we hatched a plan: we would pop into the soup kitchen to make contact with them and then run up a steep hill... (and we will make sure we flyer for both organisations soon!)
With Rupesh back marking we set off on the 2k route over. Once we arrived, Graham and Paul popped inside while the team did a quick fitness session outside: squats, calve raises and lunge walks.
Our contact was unfortunately not at the kitchen, and with nothing else for us to do, we left a message and resolved to come back again soon.
From there it was the easy big downhill run past Ally Pally before a right turn and up the big hill at Cranley Gardens - a 1km bit of road with 50m of climbing. Dividing into teams we set a challenge: set a pace and stick to it up the hill. Everyone did brilliantly and I was even called a 'slave driver' by a passer by (all part of the job..)
We then did the easy run back, catching our breath a little, and the pacy runners led by Graham, Rupesh, Jody and Avital dashed off for a sprint finish.
A brilliant effort by everyone in miserable weather and hopefully we'll have better weather for our gardening task next week. Jacqui, Katie, Abi and Sally made a dash to the pub to rehydrate and warm up. Remember we have a vacancy for an unofficial-official social sec team...
