It all started with Cultivate London's belief in recycling. Romina and Auberon from Cultivate found out about Jerome Allotments in South Acton being sentenced to be demolished and forgotten forever. On the ruins, a new cluster of high-rise buildings was supposed to rise. The Cultivate crew was hoping to salvage some of the paving slabs from the site before the builders got to them.

What they didn't know was that there was a good reason for erasing the allotments from the surface of Acton. Surrounded by metal fences covered with billboards to obscure the place from sight, Jerome Allotments hid a secret facility. Gossip had it that it was Ealing's Area 51, either being a confinement for extraterrestrials or a site of experiments on humans.

Romina had her first attempt at collecting the paving slabs last Wednesday night. When she opened the gate, in the dark, she noticed a large group of humanoid creatures throwing the slabs in the air. Several beasts spotted an open gate and broke out of their confinement. Romina backed out, but being a fearless lady, she decided to come back during the day to see what she was dealing with. On Saturday morning, she parked the CultiVan at the corner of Hanbury Road and sneaked into the allotment.

Armed with a spade in each hand, Romina approached a small pack of what she thought were humans. Thinking that she was not within earshot, Romina didn't realise that the individuals had a superhuman sense of hearing and had already noticed her presence. One from the group suddenly took a 10-metre leap and landed just in front of Romina. "I just came here for the slabs," Romina said. "Those slabs are radioactive," replied the group leader, "They turned us into super mutants". After a moment of hesitation, they added: "But help yourself".

Romina proposed a deal to the X-people: they would help her release the slabs from the concrete and move them close to the gate, and she would show them how to escape from Jerome Allotments and get around Acton. The super mutants agreed and tore the heavy slabs off the ground like they were post-it notes on a wall, then moved them towards the allotment exit. Romina was impressed with the strength of her new allies and wondered if she could harness the power of the slabs to become an invincible force of nature.

After hard work, the super mutants dispersed across the area, pretending they were regular citizens. You can try to spot some of them helping out Cultivate London in Dean Gardens next week!
